Sloan, Lucinda Wiltse 1859-1929

Mrs. Edwin M. Sloan Dies
At Her Home in Morris

Death Followed Extended Illness With Kidney Trouble
Funeral Services Tuesday Afternoon

Morris, April 15 --- Sunday morning the community was saddened by the death of Mrs. Edwin M. Sloan, which occurred at her home that morning at 6:20 o'clock. Death was due to acute kidney trouble from which she had suffered for many months. Everything in medical science was done for her in the home that she might recover, but her physician had given no encouragement to her family since March 1.
Lucinda Wiltse Sloan was born in the town of Norway, Herkimer county, September 25, 1859, the daughter of Adolphus and Mary (Bush) Wiltse. The early part of her life was spent near Richfield. On October 11, 1881, she was united in marriage to Edwin M. Sloan. Four children were born to them, Clyde, Howard, Lura and Stanley, the latter dying in infancy.
Her early married life was spent in Cooperstown and Hartwick, while her home for the past 37 years has been in Morris, where she was beloved not only by her immediate family but by a host of friends.
She was a woman of sterling Christian character, a loving wife and mother and a loyal friend. She was a member of the first Baptist church of Morris and had always, while her health permitted, taken an active part in all of its organizations. In 1908 she helped to organize Jewell chapter, O. E. S. and was a charter member. For 20 years she had held office in the chapter, serving as worthy matron for two successive years.
She is survived by her husband, two sons, Clyde A. and Howard L. both of Morris, and one daughter, Mrs. Mark Emerson, of the same place; by three sisters, Miss Minnie Wiltse and Mrs. John Allen of Richfield and Mrs. Warren Wales of Cherry Valley; one brother, Garret Wiltse of Fly Creek valley; five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from her late home. Her pastor, Rev. D. M. Sutton, will officiate. Burial will be in Hillington cemetery.
