Woman dies at Utica
New Lisbon---Mrs. Mary A. Hickling, widow of George
H. Hickling of New Lisbon, died at 6:30 Saturday afternoon at the
home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Van Pelt, of
Utica, with whom she had been spending the winter. Death was
attributed to a broken hip received in a fall about three weeks ago,
and infirmities of age.
Body was removed to Patterson funeral home in
Hartwick. Last rites will be conducted from her home near New
Lisbon Center, Tuesday at 2. Rev. C. E. Vermilya, pastor of the
Morris Methodist church, will officiate and burial will be made in
Lena cemetery.
Mary Ann Bundy was born at New Lisbon, May 31,
1857, a daughter of William and Pernila (Gregory) Bundy. Her entire
life was spent in this vicinity. Educated in the village school,
she taught for several years in the district schools. After her
marriage to Mr. Hickling, Sept. 3, 1878, the remainder of their
lives was spent at the homestead near New Lisbon Center. Mr.
Hickling passed away Dec. 21, 1924. After his death she kept house
for some years for E. E. Steele of Garrattsville, who died late last
week.
During her early life she joined the Welcome Baptist
church, and as long as health permitted, worked for the church and it
societies.
Surviving are a son, Clarence, of New Lisbon; a
daughter, Mrs. VanPelt, of Utica; a granddaughter, Mrs. Harriet
Bunn, of New Lisbon; a grandson, Clesson Hickling, of New Lisbon;
four great grandsons, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A wide circle of friends will extend the family
deepest sympathy.
