Homestead at Welcome
---Funeral Today
------------------
Morris, May 19---This community was shocked on
Saturday morning to learn of the passing of Mrs. Dorr M. Gregory,
which occurred at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. George Cooley, in Morris, after a brief illness of pneumonia.
L. Belle (Coates) Gregory, second daughter of Manley
and Lucia (Warner) Coates, was born in Cuyler, Cortland county,
August 7, 1872. At 13 years of age she came to Welcome, where she
remained in the family of Elder C. R. Corning until her marriage.
In 1887 she was united in marriage to Dorr M.
Gregory and went to housekeeping in the Gregory homestead, near
Welcome, where she resided until her demise. To Mr. and Mrs.
Gregory were born two children, Edna L. (Gregory) Cooley of Morris,
and C. Lloyd Gregory, who lives on the homestead.
When a young girl, Mrs. Gregory joined the Welcome
church where she sang in the choir and rendered such other
assistance as she could until forced by ill health to give up the
active duties of the home and the church. During the many years of
invalidism, her cheerfulness and thoughtfulness for others made it a
pleasure to be with her and her passing will be deplored by a host
of sympathizing friends.
Mrs. Gregory is survived by her husband, D. M.
Gregory; two children, Edna (Gregory) Cooley, and C. Lloyd Gregory;
one grandson, Phillip Gregory Cooley; one sister, Mrs. John Shaw; a
stepmother, Mrs. Coates, of Bainbridge; three half-sisters; one half
brother; and one uncle.
The funeral will be held this Tuesday at 2 o'clock at
the home of the son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George Cooley,
on South Broad street, conducted by Rev. D. M. Sutton of the Baptist
church with interment at Hillington cemetery.
