Mrs. Duroe Honored At Morris
Morris—A fifth grade teacher at Morris Central
School, has been honored for her contributions to citizenship and
promotion of better understanding of the “American Way of Life.”
She is Mrs. Christina Duroe, who has been awarded
the Freedom Foundation Valley Forge Classroom Teachers Medal.
Mrs. Duroes' teaching expericence started in 1914.
A short leave from 1923 until 1931 interrupted her services. From
1931 to 1963, she has been employed in the Morris Central School
District.
Her education training was comprised of courses
taken at the then State Normal School at Oneonta, Hartwick College,
Columbia University, University of California at Los Angeles,
Syracuse University, Penn State University, and State University
College at Oneonta.
Mrs. Duroe has made numerous trips throughout the
United States and Canada, and in 1958 visited six European countries
with the Friendship Caravan. In 1960, she returned to Europe and
visited Russia.
She has held the following positions: Matron of
the Order of Eastern Star, Sunday school superintendent, official
church board member, Sunday school teacher, lecturer of Grange and
member of Morris Community Council.
