Mrs. Jane Jackson Duroe

Mrs. Jane Duroe died suddenly on the morning of Wednesday, December, 18th, at her home near Noblesville, where she had lived fifty-six years. Her age was ninety years and ten months. Her death was caused by heart trouble. She had arisen that morning, dressed herself and sat in her chair when the messenger came and took her from her loved home and friends. Mrs. Duroe was a remarkably active woman, and her delight has ever been to care for herself even down to old age.
Mrs. Duroe was born in Derbyshire, England, February 14, 1817, the only daughter of Job Jackson, and had one brother, the late James Jackson of New Lisbon. She came to this country with her parents in 1832, and that same year married Francis J. Duroe, who had also but a year previous come to this country from Derbyshire. To Mr. and Mrs. Duroe were born eleven children: Mrs. Anson Gregory of New Lisbon, James J. Duroe, a prominent business man of Jeffers, Minnesota; Elnah F. Duroe of New Lisbon, H. N. Duroe, killed at Petersburg, in the Civil War, while acting captain; Mrs. G. A. Yates of Morris, Collingwood Duroe of New Berlin, Mrs. Julius Thurston of New Lisbon, Josephine, who lives at home, The Rev. Daniel Duroe, Rector of St. Luke's church in Pittsburg, Pa.; an T. O. Duroe, who has had charge of the home farm since his father's death in 1891.

Addendum:  Her mother was Phebe Twigg Jackson 1850-1866.  Job Jackson lived 1769-1839.

  1. I stumbled upon, and was greatly surprised to read this article, thank you. Two of these are my direct descendants. There are some discrepancies but overall a great account.
