Sears men's wear manager, Ross Stanhouse dies at 61

Rosslyn “Ross” J. Stanhouse, 61, of 8 Richmond Avenue, retired manager of the Men's Department at the Oneonta Sears Roebuck and Company store and a past commander of both the Otsego County and Oneonta American Legion units, died Tuesday, October 10, at Fox Hospital, following an extended illness.
Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family on Thursday, October 12, at the Boohout Funeral Home, Oneonta, with the Rev. Robert E. Germond, pastor of the first United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in the West Oneonta Cemetery.
Mr. Stanhouse was born September 21, 1911 at Garrattsville, a son of Perry L. and Jennie M. (Stafford) Stanhouse. He was graduated from Hartwick College with the Class of 1933. He married Mary Calhoun on February 9, 1945, at Troy.
He was a retail clerk and manager of the Men's Department at the Oneonta Sears Roebuck and company store for 23 years, retiring in June of 1972 because of ill health.
An Oneonta resident for 40 years, Mr. Stanshouse was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was an honorary member of the Administrative Board of the church.
A veteran of service with the U.S. Army in the European Theater of Operations from 1942 to 1945 during World War II, he was currently serving as secretary-treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Oneonta Veterans' Club Inc., and was a past commander of both the Otsego County American Legion and Oneonta Post 259, American Legion.
Surving are his wife; a son, Wayne R. Stanhouse, Ft. Myers, Fla.; two brothers, James R. Stanhouse, Amsterdam, and Rea W. Stanhouse, Wayne, Pa.; two sisters, Mrs. Howard E. (Marjorie) Rose, Downsville, and Mrs. Clifford (Gladys) Gardner, Johnson City; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at their convenience after 1 p.m., Wednesday.
The family will be in attendance from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday and until noon Thursday.
Oneonta post 259 American Legion, will conduct Memorial services at 7 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.

Private funeral services will be conducted at convenience of family, October 12 in The Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta. Burial in The West Oneonta Cemetery, West Oneonta.
Friends may call at their convenience at the Bookhout Funeral Home, after 1 p.m. Wednesday until Thursday noon. The family will be in attendance Wednesday 2- 4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. At the funeral home. The Oneonta American Legion Post 259 will conduct a memorial service in the Bookhout Funeral Home, Wednesday evening, at 7 p.m.
