Rev.
Niels P. Simonsen Dies at Home in Laurens
Laurens, Nov. 9---Rev. Niels P. Simonsen, 71 years
old, pastor of the Danish Lutheran church here, died at his home,
following an illness of six weeks' duration. Rev. Mr. Simonsen had
been in ill health for the past two years.
He was born in Denmark in 1860 and 44 years ago he
came to this country and lived in the Middle West. Three years ago
he came to Laurens and became pastor of the Danish Lutheran church
here. During his pastorate the church expanded and in September the
edifice was re-dedicated after extensive alterations had been made
when the Atlantic division of the Danish Lutheran American Synod met
here for a four-day conference.
Funeral services will be held Thursday with a private
prayer service at the home at 1:30 o'clock, followed by services in
the Danish Lutheran church at 2 o'clock. Rev. Mr. Kloth of Falmouth,
Me., president of the Atlantic division of the Synod, will officiate.
Burial will be in Laurens cemetery.
Mr. Simonsen was twice married. He is survivied by
four children of his first marriage, Samuel and Emil Simonsen of
Sioux City, Iowa, Esther Simonsen of Graettinger, Iowa, and Dagny
Simonsen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; four children by his second
marriage, Arthur Simonsen of Fremont, Neb., Mrs. William Nelson of
Laurens, Cora Simonsen, a student at Hartwick college, and Quintin
Simonsen, residing at home, and two grandchildren.
