Benton C. House Dies At Home Near New Berlin

Was Native of Springfield and for Over Half a Century
Was Contractor and Builder---
Built Over Sixty Homes in Oneonta

New Berlin, Dec. 30---The death of Benton C. House occurred at his late home near New Berlin Tuesday afternoon, December 23, after an illness of about two weeks of heart trouble. Born in the town of Springfield, he was the second son of the late Chauncey and Mary Gustin House. On January 14, 1882, he was united in marriage to Abbie M. Rood, who survives him. He also leaves one brother, C. E. House of New Berlin, and two sisters, Mrs. S. B. Holdredge of Edmeston, and several nephews and nieces.
Mr. House had been a contractor and builder for over 50 years and had erected many fine buildings, one being the Opera house at New Berlin. He had supervised the construction of 60 houses in the city of Oneonta, building one there the past summer. Always jovial and generous hearted and ready to do a kind act, he won many friends among his fellow workmen and associates.
Funeral services were conducted at the home Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock, Rev. William Brown of West Exeter officiating.
Interment was made in Union cemetery in Edmeston.
