Morris, April 19---Carrie Jacobs McNitt, wife of Jay McNitt, passed away at the Fox hospital, Oneonta, Friday. Mrs. McNitt had been ill for about six weeks. She was recently operated upon for mastoids, from which she did not recover.
Born December 20, 1867, the only daughter of Harvey and Jeanette Jacobs, on January 22, 1889, she was united in marriage to Jay McNitt. Their home has always been in this community except for seven years spent in Hartwick caring for her parents.
She was a member of the Baptist church and a member of Jewell chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, of which she was an officer at the time of her death.
She was held in high esteem by all who knew her and she will be greatly missed by a host of friends who will mourn her passing.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, James of Morris, and one grandson. One daughter, Essie, was born to them in 1890 and died in 1901.
The largely attended funeral was held Monday at 2 p. m. At the house, Rev. H. E. Danielson, pastor of the Baptist church, officiated. Over 20 members of the Order of the Eastern Star attended in a body and the officers read the impressive funeral service of the order.
The flowers sent were many and beautiful. The bearers were James, George, Frank and John Elliott, Charles Gill and Fred Southern.
Out-of-town relatives and friends came from the following places: Norwich, Morristown, N. J., Binghamton, Hartwick, Syracuse, Garrattsville, Burlington, Mt. Vision, New Berlin, Edmeston and Oxford.
