Mrs. Jay McNitt
Morris, April 19---Carrie Jacobs McNitt, wife of Jay
McNitt, passed away at the Fox hospital, Oneonta, Friday. Mrs.
McNitt had been ill for about six weeks. She was recently operated
upon for mastoids, from which she did not recover.
Born December 20, 1867, the only daughter of Harvey
and Jeanette Jacobs, on January 22, 1889, she was united in marriage
to Jay McNitt. Their home has always been in this community except
for seven years spent in Hartwick caring for her parents.
She was a member of the Baptist church and a member
of Jewell chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, of which she was an
officer at the time of her death.
She was held in high esteem by all who knew her and
she will be greatly missed by a host of friends who will mourn her
passing.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one son,
James of Morris, and one grandson. One daughter, Essie, was born to
them in 1890 and died in 1901.
The largely attended funeral was held Monday at 2 p.
m. At the house, Rev. H. E. Danielson, pastor of the Baptist church,
officiated. Over 20 members of the Order of the Eastern Star
attended in a body and the officers read the impressive funeral
service of the order.
The flowers sent were many and beautiful. The
bearers were James, George, Frank and John Elliott, Charles Gill and
Fred Southern.
Out-of-town relatives and friends came from the
following places: Norwich, Morristown, N. J., Binghamton, Hartwick,
Syracuse, Garrattsville, Burlington, Mt. Vision, New Berlin, Edmeston
and Oxford.
