Frank J. Warren

MORRIS — Frank J. Warren, 100, formerly of Morris, died Sunday, May 9, 1999, at The Meadows in Middlefield.
He was born in Brooklyn on June 30, 1898, the son of Henry Clay Warren and Mary (Burns) Warren.
He was first married to Madeline in June of 1931, and she died in December of 1938. He was then married to Catherine in April of 1943, and she died Jan. 31, 1996.
He was employed with the United States Postal Service at the New Lots Station until his retirment in 1954. He was then employed by several architectural firms after his retirement from the postal service.
He served his country during World War I in the United States Army.
He and his wife had resided in the Morris area since 1965.
He was a member of the American Legion, the Morris Grange and the Butternuts Valley Senior Citizens Club.
Frank is survived by two sons, Robert Warren and his wife, Veronica, of Smithtown and Allen Warren and his wife, Margaretta, of Ft. Worth, Texas; two stepsons, Donald Link and his wife, Clair, of Mollusk, Va., and Kenneth Link and his wife, Barbara, of Davie, Fla.; grandchildren, Robert John Warren, Linda Hatanaka, Christopher Warren, Deborah Warren, Douglas Warren, Bonnie Neal, Steven Warren, Lori Stevenson, Denise Warren, Donald Link Jr., Diana Garbey, David Link, Raymond Link, Keith Link, Cindy Lopes, Christopher Link and Julie Norman; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 13, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, with the Rev. Morris Dwyer officiating. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery in Queens on Friday, May 14, 1999, at 1 p.m. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home, Morris.

FRANKLIN---Cook E. Edgerton, 89, of Delhi Stage, a retired dairy farmer, died Saturday, July 13, 1968, at Fox Hospital following an extended illness.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin, with Rev. Gene Black, pastor of the Franklin United Methodist church, officiating.

Burial was in Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.

Mr. Edgerton was born January 23, 1879, at Pittsfield, a son of George and Mary (Whiteman) Edgerton. He was twice married. He married Josie Gager at East Sidney on January 2, 1901. She died in 1938. On June 24, 1944, he married Lillian Hagerborne of Cobleskill who died in 1958.

He was a dairy farmer both at East Sidney and Cobleskill.

Mr. Edgerton was a former member of the Unadilla IOOF lodge.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Marjorie) O'Brien of Delhi Stage; a sister, Mrs. Agnes Foote of Oneonta; a brother, Paul Edgerton of Morris; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Emma Edgerton of Gilbertsville; a stepson, Carlton Chase, Syracuse; and several step-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary Southworth Dies in New Lisbon

Demise on Wednesday—

Funeral Friday last at Her Late Home

New Lisbon, Aug. 30---The community was greatly shocked on Wednesday last when it became known that Mrs. Mary Southworth, widow of Charles Southworth, had passed away after a brief illness from hemorrhage of the brain.

Mary Vonah was born in Switzerland, July 25, 1864, a daughter of Dr. John Vonah. When a girl of 15 years of age she came to America, locating at Utica, where she lived for some time. Later she became a resident of Morris. She was twice married, her first husband being Berton Collier of that place, where she continued to reside. One son, Lewis, was born to them. In 1904 she married Charles Southworth of New Lisbon, that place being their home thereafter. Mr. Southworth died last November.

She was a devoted member of Zion Episcopal church at Morris, a woman with many friends. She was noted for her faithfulness of devoted loyalty to church, family and friends. She was also a member of the St. Paul's guild and Ever Ready club, always taking an active interest in both societies, and will be greatly missed by all in the community where she long resided.

Her only surviving relative in this country is the one son, Lewis Collier.

The funeral was held at her late home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. E. E. Hutchinson of Morris having charge of the services.

The floral tributes were many and beautiful—the pieces given by family and friends; there was one beside from St. Paul's guild and Ever Ready club.

The bearers were Erle Smith, Levi George, Frank Duroe and Ernst Thurston.

Interment was beside her first husband in Hillington cemetery at Morris.

Mrs. Southworth Dies

New Lisbon, Aug. 25---Mrs. Mary Southworth, 68, widow of Charles Southworth, died at her home at New Lisbon at 6:35 a. m. Wednesday. The funeral will be held at her late home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. E. E. Hutchinson will have charge of the services. Interment will be made beside her late husband in the church cemetery near Morris.

Comment: The date of her death was August 24, 1932.

Rev. Niels P. Simonsen Dies at Home in Laurens

Laurens, Nov. 9---Rev. Niels P. Simonsen, 71 years old, pastor of the Danish Lutheran church here, died at his home, following an illness of six weeks' duration. Rev. Mr. Simonsen had been in ill health for the past two years.

He was born in Denmark in 1860 and 44 years ago he came to this country and lived in the Middle West. Three years ago he came to Laurens and became pastor of the Danish Lutheran church here. During his pastorate the church expanded and in September the edifice was re-dedicated after extensive alterations had been made when the Atlantic division of the Danish Lutheran American Synod met here for a four-day conference.

Funeral services will be held Thursday with a private prayer service at the home at 1:30 o'clock, followed by services in the Danish Lutheran church at 2 o'clock. Rev. Mr. Kloth of Falmouth, Me., president of the Atlantic division of the Synod, will officiate. Burial will be in Laurens cemetery.

Mr. Simonsen was twice married. He is survivied by four children of his first marriage, Samuel and Emil Simonsen of Sioux City, Iowa, Esther Simonsen of Graettinger, Iowa, and Dagny Simonsen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; four children by his second marriage, Arthur Simonsen of Fremont, Neb., Mrs. William Nelson of Laurens, Cora Simonsen, a student at Hartwick college, and Quintin Simonsen, residing at home, and two grandchildren.

MOUNT VISION---Dorr M. Gregory, 98, of Mount Vision RD, the oldest resident of the Town of New Lisbon, died Friday, May 6, a t Ratcliffe Rest Home, Laurens, where he had been a patient six days.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Monday May 9, at the Patterson funeral Home, Hartwick, with the Rev. Wilfred Lyon, pastor of the Garrettsville Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Hillington Cemetery, Morris.

Mr. Gregory was born March 20, 1868 in the Town of New Lisbon,

a son of Hezekiah and Esther (Butts) Gregory. He was twice married.

On September 23, 1887 he married Belle L. Coates of the Town of New Llisbon. She died May 15, 1930. In 1942 he married Ivah Garlock of Garrattsville who died Feb. 26, 1960.

Mr. Gregory was a farmer all of his life, having resided for most of that time on the Gregory homestead.

He was a member of the former Welcome Baptist Church.

Surviving is a son, Lloyd Gregory; a daughter Edna Gregory; a grandson, Phillip D. Gregory; three great grandchildren, Mark, Terriee, and Andrea Gregory, all of Mount Vision RD. Also surviving are several cousins.

Friends may call at the Patterson Funeral Home, Hartwick, after 7 p.m. Saturday.

The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday.

Harper Steele Is Dead at 70

Garrattsville---Harper Dewey Steele, 70, died at 5:45 p. m. Tuesday in his Garrattsville home, following an illness of the past two weeks.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at his home, with the Rev. Charles Dempsey, pastor of the Methodist Church here, conducting the rites. He will be assisted by the Rev. J. Ross McCloy, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church of Garrattsville.

The body will be placed in the vault of the Hillington Cemetery, Morris. Arrangements are by Patterson Funeral Home, Hartwick.

Mr. Steele was born Nov. 26, 1881, in Sidney Center, the son of Erastus E. and Jennie L. (Harrington) Steele. He had been a resident of this village for the past 60 years, and since 1901, was a member of the E. E. Steele and Son hardware firm of Garrattsville.

He was twice married. He first wed Miss Mary Anna Curtis of Morris on Aug. 10, 1904. She died on Aug. 9, 1927. On Dec. 19, 1931, he married Miss Myra Hall, Milford.

Surviving besides his wife is one son, Curtis, who is postmaster of this village; one sister, Mrs. Lillian Coy of Earlville; and two cousins, Mrs. David I. Casler of Millbrook and Mrs. Blanche Bailey of Scranton, Pa.

of Garrattsville---Will Be at Home After Feb. 1.

Milford, Dec. 20---Miss Myra M. Hall, daughter of Mrs. Julia Hall of this village, and Harper D. Steele of Garrattsville were married Saturday morning at 8 o'clock at the home of the bride's mother on South Main street. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Willard H. Alger of Otego, a former pastor of the bride, in the presence of the immediate family.

The bride is a graduate of the Milford High school and Oneonta State Normal and for the past 10 years has been a teacher in the Chestnut Street school in Oneonta serving with great adaptability. She has been an active worker in the Methodist church and Sunday school here and has a host of friends who will extend congratulations and best wishes.

Mr. Steele is a graduate of Morris High school and is a member of the firm of E. E. Steele and Son, merchants at Garrattsville.

Following the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served and immediately after Mr. and Mrs. Steele departed for Poughkeepsie and New York. They will be at home at Garrattsville after February 1.
