Frank Tilyou Is Dead at 87

Frank Tilyou, 87, a retired farmer, died yesterday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Pearl L. Bowers, 12 Chester St.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p. m. Sunday at the Howard Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. George Thomson, pastor of the Main Street Baptist Church, officiating. The body will be placed in a vault at Franklin Cemetery and burial will be later in Masonville.

Mr. Tilyou was born in the Town of Norwich on Aug. 18, 1860, the son of John C. and Jane Tilyou. Survivors are his wife, Harriet Tilyou; two daughters, Mrs. Louis Alger, Unadilla RD, and Mrs. Bowers, with whom he made his home; one son, Fenimore Tilyou, 39 Ceperley Ave.; a niece, Mrs. Maude Wylie, Binghamton; eight grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mr. and Mrs. Tilyou would have marked their 64^th wedding anniversary Friday.

Harriet Tillyou Is Dead at 94

Mrs. Harriet S. Tillyou, 94, died 9:30 a. m. yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Pearl Bowers, 12 Chester St.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Friday at Howard Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial will be in Masonville.

Mrs. Tilyou was born in Putnam County, Connecticut, Oct. 20, 1853, and moved here at the age of five. On Dec. 31, 1870, she married Jerome Fuller of Masonville. Mr. Fuller died Sept. 25, 1873.

On Feb. 13, 1884, she married Frank Tilyou of Masonville. He died Feb. 6, 1948. She was a member of the Baptist Church at Masonville and Mount Vision. In 1918 she moved to Ilion and was an active member of the First Baptist Church there.

She is survived by three children, Mrs. Bowers, Mrs. Lewis Alger of Unadilla, and Fenimore Tilyou of 39 Ceperley Ave.; eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one great great grandchild.

Addendum: Tillyou is spelled two ways in this clipping. I believe the correct spelling is Tilyou.  May 1948 is handwritten on the newspaper clipping from the Mary Boice Gale Collection.

Funeral services were held yesterday for Mrs. Harriett Tillyou, 12 Chester St. at Howard Funeral Chapel in Franklin.

The Rev. Geroge Thompson, pastor of Oneonta Main Street Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was in Masonville. Grandsons of Mrs. Tillyou who acted as bearers were: Fenimore, Percival and Bryson Bowers, and Bivan Tillyou.

Friends and relatives were in attendance from Oneonta, Norwich, Binghamton, Franklin, Unadilla, Gilbertsville, South New Berlin and Schenectady.

Franklin, Nov. 20---Miss Carolyn Rhodes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Rhodes, and Edson Reid, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Reid, both of Franklin, were married at a quiet home wedding at the bride's home Sunday morning at 10 o'clock by the bride's pastor, Rev. Meredith H. Dallman, pastor of the Congregational-Baptist church.

The bride's attendant was her sister, Miss Genevieve Rhodes, and the best man was Everett Goldsmith. The only guests were the immediate families.

When Mr. and Mrs. Reid return from their wedding trip to New York, they will be at home to their friends in their apartment at the Reid farm home.

Cook E. Edgerton

FRANKLIN---Cook E. Edgerton, 89, of Delhi Stage, a retired dairy farmer, died Saturday, July 13, 1968, at Fox Hospital following an extended illness.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin, with Rev. Gene Black, pastor of the Franklin United Methodist church, officiating.

Burial was in Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.

Mr. Edgerton was born January 23, 1879, at Pittsfield, a son of George and Mary (Whiteman) Edgerton. He was twice married. He married Josie Gager at East Sidney on January 2, 1901. She died in 1938. On June 24, 1944, he married Lillian Hagerborne of Cobleskill who died in 1958.

He was a dairy farmer both at East Sidney and Cobleskill.

Mr. Edgerton was a former member of the Unadilla IOOF lodge.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Marjorie) O'Brien of Delhi Stage; a sister, Mrs. Agnes Foote of Oneonta; a brother, Paul Edgerton of Morris; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Emma Edgerton of Gilbertsville; a stepson, Carlton Chase, Syracuse; and several step-grandchildren.

LARGELY ATTENDED FUNERAL FOR MRS. ELIZABETH HERRICK

Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth (Bennett) Herrick were held Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church at Franklin. Rev. Samuel E. Sargeant officated. Burial was made in the Ouleout Valley cemetery.

The bearers were Edwin Niles, Edward Sienicki, Kenneth Simmons of Franklin, Harvey Mugglin, Harry Spencer and Claude Waldron of Sidney. In the profusion of flowers were pieces from American legion auxillary of Cooperstown, employes of Smalley's Sidney theatre, employes Sidney Telephone company, Sidney neighbors, Methodist church and Sunday school of Franklin, telephone operators of Franklin exchange, friends and relatives.

Those from Sidney attending the funeral were W.T. A. Webb, Mrs. Cora Landers, Edward Rink, Howard Cuyle, Mrs. Claude Waldron, Mrs. Harry Spencer, Mrs. Charles McCarty, Mrs. William Simpson, Mrs. Harvey Mugglin, Mrs. Edward Parise, Mrs. H. C. Kinch, Mrs. Eward Robinson, Mrs. Harvey Fuller, Mrs. Wakely, Larry Barnes, and Earl Hendee.
