William Richards
MOUNT UPTON — William F. Richards, 79, of Mount Upton, passed away Sunday, Oct. 31, at Bassett Hospital, Cobleskill.He was born to Frank M. and Minnie (House) Richards on Oct. 13, 1920, in Burlington.
Mr. Richards served his country from 1942-1945 in World War II. He was discharged from the Medical Detachment of the 86th Mt. Infantry. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
He married Juna Adams on Nov. 9, 1946, in Morris.
Mr. Richards was employed at the Manor House Farms after leaving the service. He later worked at the Otsego County Highway Department, Curtis Feed Store and the Department of Environmental Conservation where he retired in 1979, while managing the Sawmill at Camp Pharsalia.
He is survived by his wife, Juna of Mount Upton; one son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Dorothy Richards of Saugerties; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Ralph Hinkley of Mesa, Ariz., and Kathyann and Richard Weisensee of Sharon Springs; a brother, Ralph Richards of Mount Upton; five sisters, Eliza Baker of Hartwick, Isabel Smith of Gilbertsville, Dora Osborn of Gilbertsville, Minnie Pope of Gilbertsville and Viola Harrington of New Berlin; six grandchildren, Jennifer and Kevin Richards, Tracey Hinkley, Teresa Van Roekel and William and Bethany McCumber; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Pastor Mary Ann Linder of the United Methodist Church of Mount Upton will officiate.
Friends may call Monday, Nov. 1. The family will be in attendance from 7-9 p.m.
Burial will be in Hillington Cemetery, Morris
Memorial contributions may be made the Coronary Care Unit, The Hospital, Sidney.
Arrangements are by C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.
