Kathryn A. Bissell
ONEONTA — Mrs. Kathryn A. Bissell, 81, of Oneonta, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at the Oneonta Nursing Home.
She was born in Maple Grove on the family homestead on Oct. 16, 1918, the daughter of Roy and Bertha (Lamb) Decker.
Kathryn was married in 1940 to Harry Fred Bissell. He died in 1972.
Mrs.
Bissell was a homemaker in her own home in Garrattsville and had worked
for Mr. and Mrs. Pickens of Garrattsville and later worked in the post
office in Garrattsville for Curtis Steele.
Mrs. Bissell had a
special talent for crocheting baby sets and for many years sold them
through the Home Spun Shop in Cooperstown and Oneonta.
She was a
member of Garrattsville United Presbyterian Church for many years before
moving to Oneonta in 1970. She then transferred her church membership
to the First Presbyterian Church, Oneonta. Mrs. Bissell worked in the
Dawley Room in the Methodist Church issuing Senior Citizens Discount
Cards with Mae Sage after moving to Oneonta. She was an active member of
the Center City Senior Citizens Club.
Mrs. Bissell is survived
by one son and daughter-in-law, Lynn Harry and Helen Truesdale Bissell
of Oneonta; one brother, John Royce Decker of Florida; one sister,
Janice Decker Haskell of Florida; an aunt, Ruth Ferguson Sweet of the
Oneonta Nursing Home, Oneonta; and two grandsons, Jeffrey Lynn Bissell
and Daniel Fred Bissell, both of Oneonta. She is also survived by
several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a brother, Clarence Decker.
A graveside service will be held at the family's convenience in the spring of 2000, at Hartwick Cemetery, Hartwick.
There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.
The
Bissell family requests contributions be made to the Oneonta Nursing
Home Resident Council Fund, 330 Chestnut St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 in
memory of Kathryn A. Bissell.
