John W. Gill

GILBERTSVILLE — John W. (Jack) Gill, died Thursday morning, at his home here. He was 83.
Born in Bristol, Pa., on June 11, 1919, Jack was a retired newspaper man. He moved to Gilbertsville from New Jersey in 1988. He was a reporter and editor for a number of publications, including the Baltimore Sun, the Courier-News of Bridgewater (N.J.), the Asbury Park (N.J.) Press, the Trenton (N.J.) Times and the Delaware Valley Advance in Bucks County, Pa. He attended the University of Pennsylvania.
Jack was a collector of books and other writings by H.L. Mencken and an avid baseball fan.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Wolfe Gill; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William and Judy Wolfe of Temple, N.H.; three nieces, Amy Moshonas of Mill Valley, Calif., Erin Wolfe of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Barbara Miller of Levittown, Pa., and a nephew, David Wolfe of Austin, Texas.
Cremation arrangements are being made by the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris. There will be no calling hours or services. Donations in his name may be made to Catskill Area Hospice.
