EDMESTON — Charles W. Gelatt, 85, of Edmeston, went to be with the Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 8, 2003.
He was born June 17, 1918, in Susquehanna, Pa.. the son of Ralph D. and Ethel (Conrad) Gelatt.
He married Jennie E. Silver on Aug. 12, 1938, in Thompson, Pa.
Charlie served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a member of the Berean Baptist Church in New Berlin, where he had also served as past deacon. He was a member of the Horse & Carriage Cherry Valley Driving Association, and the Carriage Association of America.
Charlie was well-known for his love of his horses, carriages and barn. However, he always put God and his family as his first priority, a trait that he instilled in his children.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jennie; his children and their spouses, Marjorie and Cecil Watts, Betty and Richard Senrka, Connie and David Eckert, Carl Gelatt, Cheryl and Mark Rittgers, Sharon Silver, Randy and Susan Gelatt, Meradee and Daniel Schollig, and Gary and Selina Gelatt; his grandchildren, Tina, Al, Rosella, Bill, Bob, Loraine, Daniel, S.J., Jody, Paul, David, Daniel, David, Rebekah, Aaron, Daniel, Sarah, John, Danielle, Charles W. III, Dennis, Maverick, Maradee, Luke, Kari, Krista, Kimberlee, Nick, Sara, Adam, Daniel, Derek, Denyse, Colin, Emily, Amanda, Tanner and Jennie; 30 great-grandchildren; his brother, David Gelatt; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Charlie was predeceased by one son, Charles W. Gelatt Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2003, at the Berean Baptist Church in New Berlin, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Gary Foltz and Pastor Jay Henderson officiating. Calling hours will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at the church prior to the funeral service.
Interment will be at Edmeston Union Cemetery, Edmeston.
Donations may be made in Charles W. Gelatt's memory to the Edmeston Emergency Squad for their dedicated service.
Arrangements are by Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.
