SOUTH NEW BERLIN — Ellamae Christian, 84, longtime resident of South New Berlin, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 19, 2003, in the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital of Cooperstown.
Ellamae was born Feb. 5, 1919, in Hartwick, the daughter of Fred and Jennie (Doyle) Palmer. Her adoptive parents were Hubert and Alta (Platt) Holmes.
On March 5, 1938, in Gilbertsville, she married Donald Christian. He survives her.
Ellamae grew up in Norwich and had attended the Norwich and South New Berlin schools. A resident of South New Berlin since 1946, she had worked for the fishline factory and the Dimock Hollow Phone Co. Her last employment was with the Norwich Shoe Co., where she worked for a period of 20 years, retiring in 1981.
Ellamae is survived by her husband of 65 years, Donald Christian, of South New Berlin; her children, David Paul Christian and his wife, Ann, of South New Berlin, Mary Lee Meyers and her husband, Kenneth, of South New Berlin, and Cynthia Ann Christian of Vienna, Va.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; her sister, Bertha Johnson of Cooperstown; her sister-in-law, Beatrice Palmer; and several nieces and nephews.
Ellamae was predeceased by her son, Donald W. Christian; her daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Christian; two sisters, Margaret Thompson and Grace Houck; her two brothers, Elmer and Walter Palmer; and two great-grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours.
Graveside services for Ellamae will be held in the spring from the Maplewood Cemetery of Mount Upton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the South New Berlin Fire Department, South New Berlin Emergency Squad, or to the South New Berlin Fireman's Auxiliary, South New Berlin, NY 13843.
