SIDNEY — Edith M. Champlin, 74, formerly of Sidney, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at the Oneonta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident for nearly five years.
She was born Nov. 9, 1928, in Morris, to Mary Ann (Elliott) Colburn and Lee Lester Colburn. Edith graduated from Morris High School in 1946.
She married Mahlon Alan Champlin of Oneonta on May 30, 1950, in Zion Episcopal Church in Morris.
Prior to her marriage, she was employed as postal clerk in Morris. In 1953, she and her husband moved to Sidney, where they were both employed at Scintilla.
Edith served on the vestry of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She was active in The Hospital Guild and the Nex-T-New shop. She served as a den mother in Cub Scouts while her four sons were growing up. Later, she was self-employed as displayer/salesperson for Home Interiors and Gifts. In 1987, she became a licensed real estate agent for Combs Realty.
Her husband; three sons, Mark of Lantana, Fla., Brian and John of Sidney; three grandchildren, Stacy of Milford, Shelly of Binghamton and Sean of Sidney; great-granddaughter Kailey of Milford and numerous nieces and nephews survive Edith.
Her son Michael, her sister, Norma Walker and her brothers, Nelson, James and Frederick, predeceased her.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 10, 2003, at 6 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel.
Friends may call Monday. The family will be in attendance at 5 p.m.
Burial will be in Hillington Cemetery in Morris in the spring.
Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc.
