GILBERTSVILLE — Rebecca Marie "Becky" Gross, 17, of Gilbertsville, died on Thursday, June 14, 2001, at A.0. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born Feb. 23, 1984, in Oneonta, the daughter of Thomas N. and Debra (Wilber) Gross.
Becky was a junior at Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Central School. A lifelong resident of Gilbertsville, she was very active in school, church and the community. She played varsity softball, basketball and soccer in school. She was a member of Explorer Post 44 of the Gilbertsville Emergency Squad and Gilbertsville Fire Department. She was a major in Troop C Explorer Post of the state police and had attended the National Explorer Post Convention in Atlanta, Ga.
Becky was a member of the Gilbertsville Baptist Church and was a member of the Gilbertsville Baptist Youth Group. She was a first runner-up for the Gilbertsville Fire Department Queen and was also a past fire queen in 1999. She was a certified first responder for the Gilbertsville emergency squad and fire department, as well as being a member of the SADD chapter at school.
Becky is survived by her parents, Thomas and Debra Gross of Gilbertsville; three sisters, Leigh Ann Gross, Sue Ellen Gross, and Kaitlyn Gross and a foster sister, Ariel Mills, all of Gilbertsville; two brothers, Christopher and Dustin Gross of Gilbertsville; her maternal grandmother, Dorothy J. Wilber of Wells Bridge; aunts and uncles, James and Susan Wilber of Franklin, Kathy and Rick Pope of Rockdale, Sharon and Steve Herrmann of West Oneonta and Beth Fite of Boulder, Colo.; and several cousins. She was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Fred Wilber, and paternal grandparents Martha and Gordon Gross.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday June 18, 2001, at the Gilbertsville Baptist Church in Gilbertsville. The Rev. Randolph Palada will officiate.
Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 30 River St., Otego, N.Y., on Sunday, June 17, 2001, after 3 p.m. The family will be present at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2001.
Burial will be in the Brookside Cemetery in Gilbertsville.
