Blumenstock, Dr. David A. Died 2001 Surgeon at MIB

David Blumenstock

CONCORD, Mass. — Dr. David A. Blumenstock, 74, professor emeritus of clinical surgery, College of Physicians & Surgeons, Columbia University, physician and former surgeon-in-chief at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, died Friday, March 23, 2001, after a prolonged illness.
Born in Newark, N.J., the son of Albert and Marion (Dickson) Blumenstock, he attended Union College and Cornell Medical School before joining the surgical staff of Bassett Hospital (1953-1992). Dr. Blumenstock devoted his life to caring for his patients, to his shared vision for creating in Bassett Hospital a unique world-class medical teaching facility within a rural setting and to his medical research. Dr. Blumenstock was a research pioneer in the field of lung transplantation.
In 1952, he married Audrey Webster, from Gloversville, N.Y. She predeceased him.
He is survived by his three children, Beth Manley of Middlefield, Conn., David Blumenstock of Westford, Mass,, and Kristen Dube of Lakeville, Mass. He also leaves eight grandchildren and a close family friend, Carol Lewis of Cooperstown, N.Y.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. in the Bassett Hall Chapel on Monday, April 9, 2001.
