Berlin---The Funeral of Robert Forrester Talbot, 68, postmaster here,
who died Nov. 30, 1950, will be at 2 p.m. This afternoon from St.
Andrews Church, with the Rev. Bradford H. Tite officiating. Bearers
will be post office employes, Stuart Spicer, Frank Ackerman, Elwell
Mowry, Louis Schermerhorn, Robert Perkins and Kenneth Olds. Burial
will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Mr. Talbot died in his home after a heart attack brought on by
shoveling snow. He was born Dec. 8, 1881, in Edmeston, a son of Arba
and Amanda Talbot Talbot. He attended local schools and married Mina
Pigh, who died in 1910. He later married Lillian Hill.
He came here in 1903 and conducted a photograph gallery until
1915. Appointed postmaster under President Wilson, May 4, 1914, he
served two terms. In 1914 he built and conducted the automobile
business now operated by B. A. Ackerman. He was appointed acting
postmaster by President Roosevelt Apr. 1, 1935, and received his
permanent appointment Aug.1, 1935.
He was a member of St. Andrews Church, Phoebus Lodge F7AM, the
executive committee of the Chenango-Broome Postmasters Association
and was a vestryman of St. Andrews Church.
His hobby was raising flowers, mainly glads and dahlias. At
flower shows he had won medals and blue ribbons.
He leaves his wife, two brothers, Wayne, Edmeston, and Leon,
Burlington Flats; a sister, Mrs. Neva Gilson, Edmeston, and a niece
and nephew.
