PALM BAY, Fla. — LeRoy F. Poling, 83, formerly of Garrattsville, N.Y., died at his home in Palm Bay, Fla., on Saturday, March 2, 2002.
Born in Union, Ohio, in 1919, he lived in Garrattsville until 1972, when he moved to Belle Glade, Fla.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He landed in France on D-Day and took part in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was superintendent of highways for the town of New Lisbon until 1972.
After moving to Florida, he was sanitation superintendent for the city of Belle Glade and also taught mechanics at the vocational school there. After moving to Palm Bay in 1984, he went to work for Avis as a driver.
He was especially proud of his four children and his 20 years on the Morris Central School Board of Education, several as its president.
His survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Betty Hull Poling, of Palm Bay, Fla.; his children and their spouses, Nick and Sue Poling of Juliaetta, Ind., Jeff and Kathie Poling of Oneonta, N.Y., Sharon and Nick Lambros of Oneonta, N.Y., Bonnie Burke and Bruce Dietzen of Key West, Fla.; grandchildren, Matt, Sean and Kayla Poling, Maria and Jaclyn Lambros and Derek Burke; a brother, Charles and Pat Poling of Oneida, N.Y.; sisters, June and Richard Rollins of Garrattsville, N.Y., Billie and Ron Snyder of Belle Glade, Fla., and Florence and Robert Arnold of Burlington Flats, N.Y.
Graveside services will be held at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, Fla., at noon on Tuesday.
