Mrs. VanPelt,
76, Dies; Rites Sunday
New Lisbon---Word was received here yesterday that Mrs. Bert
VanPelt died Friday morning at her home in Utica. Funeral will be
held in that city Sunday at 2 p. m. Burial will be at South
Edmeston.
Mrs. VanPelt was born in New Lisbon May 22, 1869, daughter of
George and Mary (Bundy) Hickling. Her marriage to Bert VanPelt took
place September 14, 1909. They lived in New Lisbon until about 22
years ago when they moved to Utica.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a brother, Clarence
Hickling, New Lisbon; a niece, Mrs. Harry Bunn, Garrattsville; and a
nephew, Clesson Hickling, Meredith.
Addendum: One of my pet peeves is an obituary like this that doesn't
give
a woman's first name at the very least. In my Ancestry.com
Davenport tree, I have her name as Rosie Pauline Hickling.
It also would appear that her date of birth is wrong. According to the 1880 census she is 9 months old and the 1900 census has her at 20 years old.
