Balcom Dies at Home In Hartwick
After
Shock

Hartwick,
Sept. 30---Edson N. Balcom died at the homestead at Lena, Wednesday
morning following a stroke of paralysis, which he suffered Thursday
of last week. He had been an invalid since August, 1930, as the
result of a stroke at that time.
Mr. Balcom was born, January 1, 1859, in the town
of Burlington, the son of Eli and Susie (Edson) Balcom. December 28,
1880, he was married to Susie Gardner, who died in 1909, and in
February, 1912, he was married to Mrs. Ella Babcock, who died five
years later.
He is survived by the son mentioned above and a
daughter, Mrs. Andrew Salisbury, two granddaughters, Glenidore and
Letha, living at home.
He was a member of the Christian church at Hartwick
and the Lena Grange. The funeral will be held at the home Saturday
afternoon at 2 o'clock. Due to the illness of his pastor, Rev. R. C.
Updyke, Rev. Frank V. Thomas, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal
church at Mt. Vision, will officiate. Burial will be made in the
Hartwick cemetery beside his first wife.
