Hartwick, June 9---On Wednesday evening, June 3, Ralph E. Davis of New Lisbon and Lulu P. Barton of West Laurens were married by Rev. R. C. Updyke at the parsonage of the Christian church. The couple were unattended and will reside at the home of John Davis in New Lisbon.

Hartwick Man Dies at 80

Hartwick—Funeral services for William H. Tuller, 80, who died early yesterday morning at his home on West Main Street, will be held at 2:30 p. m. Saturday at the Congregational-Christian Church, the Rev. Wendell Cobb, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. George Becker, D. D., pastor of the Methodist Church here. Burial will be in Hartwick Cemetery.

Mr. Tuller was born March 28, 1870, in Otego, son of Lyman and Susan (Pashley) Tuller. He married Mrs. Lucinda D. Palmer Feb. 18, 1896, at Hartwick. He had lived in Oneonta for ten years and had operated a poultry farm for many years at Mount Vision before coming here five years ago.

He was a member of the Congregational-Christian Church here for 60 years and had been a deacon and trustee at the time of his death.

Surviving besides his wife are a step-daughter, Mrs. Lynn Washburn of Burlington Flats; a granddaughter, Mrs. Donald Wallace of Oneonta; a great-grandson, Richard Wallace; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Austin of Burlington Flats, and Mrs. Mattie VanDeusen of Edmeston.

Mr. Wade was born June 17, 1874, in Morris, a son of George and Cora A. (Newton) Wade. He married the former Lucy Barton, who is now deceased. A farmer, he lived in Hartwick for one year after moving to this village from Morris

Dies at Family Residence

Hartwick, May 8---Mrs. Ida T. Burch, 77, beloved wife of Orlo S. Burch, passed away Sunday afternoon at her home in Main street. Death was caused by complication of diseases.

Mrs. Burch was born February 23, 1855, in Laporte, Ind., the daughter of James and Lany (Pierce) Allison. She came to Hartwick when eight years of age and has since resided in this village. She was married to Orlo Burch January 30, 1878. Mr. and Mrs. Burch celebrated their golden wedding anniversary January 30 1928. She was a member of the Hartwick Methodist Episcopal church and acted as Sunday school superintendent for several years. She was a devoted Christian and a woman highly respected in this community.

Surviving besides her husband are one son, A. Monroe Burch, and one grandson, Orlo Burch, Hartwick; two cousins, Mrs. Fannie Baker, Syracuse, and Mrs. Hortense Maynard, Cooperstown. Her only daughter, Mrs. J. D. McAllister, passed away last November.

Funeral services will be held from the family home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. George A. Roberts, pastor of the Hartwick Methodist Episcopal church, will officiate. Interment will be in the family plot of the Hartwick cemetery.

Emma Peet Risley Edmonds, 76, passed away Monday, January 27, at her home in Hartwick, following a shock. Mrs. Edmonds was born in Edmeston February 22, 1858, the daughter of Levi Peet and Caroline Walters. Her early life was spent in this community. She was twice married, her first husband being Herbert Risley and the second husband Loren Edmonds. She was a member of the Christian Church at Hartwick for over forty years and much of her life was spent in Hartwick and New Lisbon.

Surviving are three sons, William Risley, George Risley and Edward Risley, all of Hartwick; three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Harris of Waterville, Mrs. Olive Burdick of Edmeston and Mrs. Maude Parkin of New York, one brother, Ray Peet of Edmeston; and eight grandchildren.

The funeral was held from the Maxwell Funeral Home and later at the Christian Church. The Rev. R. C. Updyke officiated assisted by the Rev. L. N. Davis, pastor of the Methodist church. The body was placed in the Hartwick Cemetery for burial in the spring.

Mrs. Claude Tilley Passes Away at Home in Hartwick

Hartwick, March 24---Mrs. Claude Tilley, 30 years old, died Tuesday morning at 6:30 o'clock, following childbirth. Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock in the Hartwick Methodist Episcopal church, Rev. G. E. Young officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in the Hartwick cemetery.

Mrs. Tilley was born in Jordanville, January 16, 1901, the daughter of Scfroit J. and Minnie McDonald King. In 1923 she was united in marriage to Claude Tilley of Hartwick. She attended the Jordanville school and later worked in the post office. She was an active member of the Hartwick Methodist Episcopal church.

Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, Doris Louise and Lila Marie Tilley, her father and mother mentioned above and a brother, Barney King, all of whom reside in Fly Creek. There are also several nephews and nieces.

Hartwick, Dec. 9---Charles L. Sheldon passed away this morning at 5:20 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bertha DeMett, on West Main street, this village, where he had been ill of pneumonia for about two weeks. He had not been in good health for about two months.

The funeral will be held from the home of Mrs. DeMett Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. R. C. Updyke of the Christian church will officiate. Burial will be in the Hartwick cemetery.

Mr. Sheldon was born in Illinois, December 25, 1856, coming to New York state when a small boy. He was married to Miss Mary E. Robinson of Hartwick, December 20, 1874. Mrs. Sheldon died several years ago and on January 16, 1916, he married Mrs. Emma Barrett, who survives him.

Surviving besides his wife, are the three children, Fred Sheldon of Dover, N. J., Mrs. Bertha DeMett and Mrs. Clara Tuller of Hartwick; one sister, Mrs. Mark Stanton of Nunda, also three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mr. Sheldon had been a resident of Hartwick for many years and was employed by Moody and Gould of Oneonta for several years before coming to Hartwick.

 Hartwick, Feb. 4---Alphonse C. Stevens, a resident of the town of New Lisbon, was found dead in bed at his home this forenoon by one of his neighbors. Dr. B. F. Bishop of Garrattsville and Dr. George E. Schoolcraft of Hartwick were called and pronounced the case heart attack. The body was removed to the W. H. Stilwell funeral home, where the funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Clyde Hurlburt pastor of the Mt. Vision Baptist church, will officiate. The body will be placed in the Mt. Vision cemetery vault until spring.

Mr. Stevens was born July 25, 1854, and never married. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Mumford of New York city, Mrs. Alice Peabody of Groton, Mass., and Mrs. Mary Drake of Washington, D. C.,; Two nephews, Curtis and George Mumford of Oneonta, and one niece, Mrs. M. C. Wright of Mt. Vision, who is spending the winter in St. Cloud, Fla.

Hartwick, Dec. 31---A very pretty home wedding was solemnized at the home of Mrs. Flora Fuller on North street, Hartwick, Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock, when her daughter, Miss Guida Fuller, was united in marriage to Richmond Ellis of Bainbridge.

The bride wore wine colored velvet. They were attended by the bride's sister, Miss Mildred Fuller and Prentiss Brown, both of Hartwick. Rev. George E. Youngs, the bride's pastor, performed the ceremony.

A wedding luncheon was served immediately after the ceremony. The table was prettily decorated in yellow.

Comment: I'm not sure of the bride's first name. In the heading, it was spelled Gurda, but below that it was spelled Guida.

Lantern Explodes and Fires Hartwick Barn

Hartwick, Jan. 19---a lantern falling to the floor and exploding was the cause of a fire, which yesterday morning destroyed the entire contents of a barn on the farm of George B. Lough, two miles from here. The loss is estimated at $3,000. Mr. Lough carried $1,500 in insurance.

The owner entered the barn at 6 o'clock to attend to his chores. He was going overhead upstairs on a ladder to throw down hay, when the lantern fell and exploded. Mr. Lough was able to save 20 head of cattle and three horses. A quantity of hay, grain and tools were destroyed.

Hartwick, Sept. 12---Mrs. Melinda Ballard, widow of the late George Ballard, died suddenly last evening at 9:30 at the home of her son, John Ballard, in the town of New Lisbon.

Mrs. Ballard was born in the town of Otsego 85 years ago, but she had been a resident of New Lisbon for many years. She was a member of the Christian church of Hartwick.

The funeral will be held at the home of her son Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. C. J. Hurlburt, pastor of the Mt. Vision Baptist church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Hartwick cemetery.

Surviving are one son and one daughter, Mrs. J. R. Thompson of New Lisbon.

She had many friends who will regret to hear of her loss.

Hartwick, Aug. 4---Mrs. Emogene (Babcock) Gregory, 84, widow of the late Hiram Gregory, died this morning at 6 o'clock at the home of her son, Fred, in New Lisbon. The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Clyde J. Hurlburt, pastor of the Mt. Vision Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be in the Gregory cemetery in New Lisbon.

Born, August 1, 1848, a daughter of Henry and Julia Babcock, she was a lifelong resident of New Lisbon. Surviving are two sons, Smith and Fred Gregory, two grandsons, two sisters, Mrs. Chester Harrington, all of New Lisbon, and Mrs. Bertha Curry of Highland, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gregory had a host of friends who will sincerely mourn her death.

Plunges in Otego Creek; 4 Others Injured

Hartwick, Oct. 29---A 14 year-old girl was instantly killed and four other persons were injured last night at 8 o'clock when their light roadster skidded from the Main street highway and plunged over a 20-foot embankment into the Otego creek.

The victim of the ill-fated automobile ride was Miss Nadine Alyce Lewis, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward H. and Leah (Cummings) Lewis of this village. She received a crushed chest, fractured skull and a broken right arm.

George Dickenson of Hartwick, also a passenger in the car, was rushed to the Mary Imogene Bassett hosptal in Cooperstown, where he was given treatment by a doctor for a broken right collarbone, lacerations of the face and body, and a possible fracture on the left side of the jaw. His condition last night was considered good.

The other members of the party escaped with but slight cuts and bruises. They were: Lyle Baluch of Schuyler Lake, driver of the machine; Miss Helen Ainslie, and Miss Rowena Babcock, both of Hartwick.

The party was traveling west on Main street. As the car approached the Main street bridge a machine coming from the opposite direction forced Baluch to use his brakes. The machine skidded on the wet, slippery pavement and after turning backwards shot across the highway and over the 20-foot embankment into the Otego creek.

The crash and cries of the injured attracted Mr. and Mrs. James Ainslie from their home nearby. They rushed to the scene and with the help of others raised the car from the injured. Miss Lewis was found crushed beneath the car, and death was apparently instantaneous.

Dr. George E. Schoolcraft was summoned and he administered first aid to the other members of the party. Dr. Norman W. Getman, coroner of Otsego county, investigated the case, and stated that Miss Lewis died from the result of a fractured skull. He rendered a verdict of accidental death.

State Police Sergeant John L. Cunningham, stationed at the Cooperstown outpost of Sidney barracks, was detailed to the case. Investigation revealed that the girls were on their way to a social party when the accident occurred. They had previously been walking, but met the boys on the highway and were given a ride. Miss Lewis was sitting on the lap of one of her girl companions, and the others were crowded in the front seat of the car.

Word of the accident spread rapidly around the village, and many automobiles lined the highway near the scene of the fatality. The car was a complete wreck.

Nadine Alyce Lewis was born in Hartwick, June 19, 1917. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and Sunday school class, and was a very faithful attendant. She attended the Hartwick High school, being president of the Freshman class.

Prayer services will be held from the home of her parents Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and funeral services will be held from the Methodist Episcopal church at 2 o'clock. Rev. George E. Youngs, of Chenango Bridge, assisted by Rev. George A. Roberts, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot of the Fly Creek cemetery.

Surviving besides the parents are one sister, Miss Thelma Lewis, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Cummings of Garrattsville. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

The ceremony was performed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bertrand Roberts and the couple were attended by Milton Bard, brother of the bride and Mrs. Walter Craig, sister of the groom. The Rev. Walter Craig of the Presbyterian Church at Gilbertsville, a brother-in-law of the groom, officiated. After the ceremony a wedding dinner was served by the groom's parents. Mr. Roberts is associated with his father in the feed business at Hartwick.

Hartwick, Dec. 22---Simeon Sloan, 82 years old, a life-long resident of this village, died this morning at 3 o'clock at the Mary Imogene Bassett hospital in Cooperstown, where he had been a patient for several weeks.

Mr. Sloan was born in Cherry Valley, February 20, 1849. About 56 years ago he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Curry, who died a year ago last June. He had always followed the occupation of farming.

Surviving are one son, Horace Sloan, Chadwick; one daughter, Mrs. Merton Beckley, Hartwick; one sister, Mrs. George Wilcox, Morris; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Merton Beckely, Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Rev. George P. Kehrer, pastor of the Baptist church, will officiate. Burial will be in Hartwick cemetery.

Cooperstown, March 4 --- Mrs. Iva Adams, 68, wife of Charles Adams of the town of Hartwick, died last night at the Fox hospital in Oneonta, as the result of an injury, which she sustained in her home about a month ago.

Funeral services will be held from the Cooperstown funeral parlors of Brown and Tillapaugh at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning. Rev. George Roberts of Hartwick will officiate and interment will be in the Presbyterian cemetery in Fly Creek.

Mrs. Adams was before her marriage Iva Davidson, the daughter of Richard and Susan Griffin Davidson. She was born in the town of Hartwick. The deceased was twice married, her first husband being Charles A. Johnson, whose death occurred about 12 years ago. Her second husband, Mr. Adams, and several nieces, survive.

One of the prettiest social events of the season occurred at Hartwick, Wednesday afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock, at the Christian church when Miss Grace M. Talbut, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dorrance C. Talbut of New Lisbon, was united in marriage to George Milton Augur of Hartwick. Bronner's orchestra of Cooperstown, concealed behind a screen of locust boughs, playing the wedding march. The bridal procession was led by Ebenezer C. Talbut of Leonardsville and W. Clyde Carr of Hartwick, brothers-in-law of the bride, the Rev. and Mrs. Albert Louckes, and Drs. Blaine I. And Benjamin H. Talbut of Hartwick, brothers of the bride, followed by the bride and groom. They took their places under an arch of evergreen from which was suspended a mammouth wedding bell of green. The entire decorations were ferns, evergreens and cut flowers of yellow and white. The full ring service was used.

The bride was handsomely gowned in ivory colored satin trimmed with Venetian lace and with a train and veil. The dress was designed and made by the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Catherine Mack, now in her eighty-third year. The groom is supervisor of the town of Hartwick and is very well known throughout the entire county. His friends are legion and are as extensive as his acquaintances. He has won as his bride a young lady of most enviable characteristics. She is a graduate of the Cooperstown High school and Training Class and has sucessfully taught for several years in the southern states and on the Isthmus of Panama. Through her kindly and thoughtful disposition she possesses a host of friends who will join in congratulations and good wishes. The marriage was probably the most largely attended function of its kind held in Harwick in recent years.

Following the service at the church a reception was given at the home of Drs. B. I. And B. H. Talbut on South street. The color scheme used in decorating was yellow and white, that at the church being green and white. A delicious three course dinner was served by the following young ladies: Misses Lena Parker, Ruth Hinderlang, Katherine McFarland, Charlotte Hall, Alida Phillips, Myrl Ward, Lillian Curry, Elizabeth Ellsworth. At the bride's table were seated Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Talbut, the Rev. and Mrs. Louckes and the bride and groom. Mrs. P. C. Smith of Mt. Vision acted as caterer.

HARTWICK---Funeral services for Mrs. Grace M. Augur, 88, of Hartwick, will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 20, at the Hartwick Christian Church, with the Rev. Gerald Holmes, pastor officiating.

Burial will be in Hartwick Cemetery.

Mrs. Augur died Monday, January 17, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, where she had been admitted earlier in the day.

She was born August 20, 1883 in the Town of New Lisbon, a daughter of Dorrence and Mary (Mack) Talbut. She was married to George Milton Augur of Hartwick.

Mrs. Augur attended the former Oneonta Normal School after which she taught in the grade schools in Puerto Rico and in the Texas School and the Lena School in the Town of New Lisbon.

She was a long time resident of Hartwick; a member of the Hartwick Christian Church; the WCTU and the Garden Club of Leonardsville.

Surviving are a brother, Dr. Benjamin Talbut of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two nephews, Richard Talbut, Leonardsville, and Dr. Dorrence Talbut, Toledo, Ohio; a niece, Miss Mary Talbut, Larkspur, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Gladys Talbut, Toledo, and Mrs. Rosa Talbut, Ft. Lauderdale.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday at the Patterson Funeral Home, Hartwick.

The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

of New Lisbon Sunday Afternoon.

Hartwick, Dec. 17---Lewis C. Briggs, native and life long resident of New Lisbon, a member of Company H of the 152^nd New York Regiment in the Civil war, died this afternoon at his home in the town of New Lisbon, near Mt. Vision, aged 79 years. The deceased had been in poor health for two or three years but succumbed to an attack of broncho-pneumonia at the last. He suffered a shock last July, from which he had never recovered. The funeral services will be held from his late residence on Sunday at 1:30 o'clock and will be private. Rev. George Adams, pastor of the Baptist church at Mt. Vision, will conduct the services.

Mr. Briggs was a son of the late Michael and Sophronia (Madison) Briggs and was born in New Lisbon, April 21, 1846. He married Mary Josephine Ballard, also of New Berlin, and she, with ten children, Mrs. James Balcom of Hartwick, Mrs. Louis Knoch, Mrs. Andy Hall and Mrs. Andrew Telfer of Hartwick, Mrs. Carl Smith of Middlefield, Lewis T. Briggs of Hartwick, Leon Briggs of Detroit, Mich., James Briggs of Rochester and Miss Elizabeth and Earl Briggs, both residing at home, survive him.

The two children last named, who have remained at home and cared for the aged parents, have been kind and devoted to them and merit the approbation of all. Mr. Briggs was a respected citizen always and many will have a kind word to say about him. He leaves also about 20 grandchildren one of whom is Terry B. Luce of this village.

Hartwick---Mrs. John (Erwina) Marcellus, 61, of 1313 Bellvue Ave.,

Syracuse, a former Hartwick resident, died Tuesday in her home.

She was born in New Lisbon, daughter of Andrew and Elsie Briggs Telfer. Mrs. Marcellus was a 25-year employe of Chappell's Department Store.

Beside her husband, she leaves her parents, and a sister, Mrs. John Chamberlaine, Needham Heights, Mass.

The funeral will be at 1 tomorrow from the Newell-Leonard Funeral Home, Syracuse.

Addendum She was born June 13, 1904 in New Lisbon, NY and died July 20, 1965.
