Alphonse C. Stevens, 76,
New Lisbon, Is Dead

 Hartwick, Feb. 4---Alphonse C. Stevens, a resident of the town of New Lisbon, was found dead in bed at his home this forenoon by one of his neighbors. Dr. B. F. Bishop of Garrattsville and Dr. George E. Schoolcraft of Hartwick were called and pronounced the case heart attack. The body was removed to the W. H. Stilwell funeral home, where the funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Clyde Hurlburt pastor of the Mt. Vision Baptist church, will officiate. The body will be placed in the Mt. Vision cemetery vault until spring.
Mr. Stevens was born July 25, 1854, and never married. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Mumford of New York city, Mrs. Alice Peabody of Groton, Mass., and Mrs. Mary Drake of Washington, D. C.,; Two nephews, Curtis and George Mumford of Oneonta, and one niece, Mrs. M. C. Wright of Mt. Vision, who is spending the winter in St. Cloud, Fla.

Charles Bishop Passes Away at Home in Edmeston

Deceased Was Prominent figure in History of Baseball
at Village Funeral to Be Held Today

Edmeston, Dec. 25---Charles H. Bishop, prominent sportsman and job printer of this village, died Wednesday morning at 1:30 o'clock after a long illness. Mr. Bishop had been in ill health for the past two years. He was 77 years old.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11 o'clock in the F. H. Gates Undertaking parlors. Burial will be in Union cemetery.
Mr. Bishop was born in Morris in 1854 and was the son of Lewis and Julia Bishop. He came to Edmeston 45 years ago and for a short time taught school here. He then entered the grocery business and later opened a drug store here. For the last 15 years he has been engaged in the job printing business. He was married to Levina Chamberlain in 1893. She died in 1910. Mr. Bishop was an ardent baseball fan and for many years was identified with this sport in the village. He was the official scorer of all the important games played by teams representing Edmeston with other communities and was also one of the original sponsors of the game and the formation of a baseball club in this village. For the last 15 years he had made his home at the Gaskin house.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Harry Prell of Middleburg, and three grandchildren.

Edwin M. Sloan Dies at Residence at Morris

Morris, Feb. 5---Edwin M. Sloan passed away at his home, at the corner of West Main and church streets, in this village, at 3 o'clock this Tuesday morning. He had been in poor health for several years past but his condition was not considered serious by his family until within the past few days, when he failed to recover from a severe attack of jaundice.
Mr. Sloan was the son of the late Joshua and Sarah (Mosher) Sloan and was born in the town of Springfield, June 19, 1854. He was married to Lucinda Wiltse of Springfield, October 11, 1881, who passed away April 14, 1929. To them were born four children, three sons, Clyde A. Sloan, Howard L. Sloan, and G. Stanley Sloan, who died in infancy, and one daughter, Mrs. Mark Emerson, all of Morris.
His early life was spent in Cooperstown and Hartwick. Forty years ago he moved with his family to Morris, where he purchased the undertaking business of H. B. Parker, and has continued in that business until his death. For years he also conducted a hardware store.
The deceased was a member of the First Baptist church of Morris, also a member of Tianderrah lodge, F. & A. M., and was a charter member of Jewell chapter, O. E. S. He is survived by the two sons and daughter mentioned above and by one sister, Mrs. George Wilcox, Morris, and one brother, Simeon Sloan, Hartwick.
His funeral will be held from his late home Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock, services to be conducted by his pastor, Rev. D. M. Sutton, followed by the Masonic burial service. Interment will be in the family plot in Hillington cemetery.
