ONEONTA — Thomas J. Vaughan, 82, of Oneonta, passed away on Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at his residence.
He was born May 16, 1920, in Malta, Mont., the son of Thomas and Gertrude (Senhpiel) Vaughan.
Thomas was a career military man serving in the United States Navy for 23 years, enlisting in 1939 and retiring from active duty in 1963. Before joining the Navy, he was involved with the CC Camp working on the Gilbert Lake project.
His hobbies included golfing, walking and riding his bicycle.
He is survived by his two nephews and their wives, James and Pat Vaughan of Oneonta, and Hugh and Marge Vaughan of Wells Bridge; a niece and her husband, Diana and Pete Mathewson of West Oneonta; five great-nephews; and two great-nieces.
Thomas was predeceased by his brother, Woodrow Vaughan.
A military graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, with the Rev. Kenneth Baldwin officiating.
Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.
