GILBERTSVILLE — James Harold Yager, 80, of Gilbertsville, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at his home.
He was born in Schenevus on Oct. 18, 1922, the son of Glen and Margaret (McCloskey) Yager.
He was married to Kathryn Camp on June 29, 1946, in Oneonta. They had been married for nearly 57 years.
He had been employed for NYSEG of Oneonta, retiring in 1983, after 32 years of service to the company.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion Post No. 1339 of Gilbertsville and was a past commander.
He was a former member of the Gilbertsville Fire Department and had served as president. He also had served his community as a Gilbertsville village trustee and was a member and former deacon of the First Baptist Church of Gilbertsville.
James is survived by his wife, Kathryn, of Gilbertsville; his son, Kevin Yager and wife, Jinny, of Brattleboro, Vt.; a daughter-in-law, Robin Yager of Willet; as well as his grandchildren, Jill, Sandra, Eric and Sara Yager; and his great-grandchildren, Kylie, Brendan and Emma Yager.
A son, Stephen Yager, predeceased him.
Calling hours will be at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, on Tuesday, June 10, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the First Baptist Church of Gilbertsville, with the Rev. Randolph Palada officiating. Committal services and burial will follow at the Brookside Cemetery in Gilbertsville.
Those who wish are asked to donate to the First Baptist Church of Gilbertsville in his memory.
Arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.
