Unadilla, May 27---Miss Elizabeth Gregory, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell Gregory of Unadilla, on June 2 will graduate as a college junior from the National Cathedral School for Girls of Washington, D. C.

Miss Gregory has been honored by the school at this commencement time. The permanent members of the student council and the faculty choose each year seven young ladies who stand first in scholarship and general ability to represent the school body at the commencement exercises. Miss Gregory has earned the honor to be one of the seven to participate this year. She will have the honor to be crucifer at the baccalaureate exercises which will be held in the Bethlehem chapel in the National Cathedral.

Hartwick, May 31---A fire that broke out at 6:20 p. m., Friday, at the Texaco filling station operated by G. A. Bresee, at the west side of the village, completely destroyed the one-story frame bungalow in which the filling station, grocery store and residence of Mr. Bresee were located.

For a time the fire, which burned fiercely for about three quarters of an hour, threatened to spread to nearby buildings, and the roof of one of them, a large hotel that is being remodeled into a garage, did catch fire. The blaze was soon extinguished, however, by the Hartwick and Cooperstown fire departments, which had been summoned to the scene as soon as the fire broke out.

It is thought that the fire was started by a spark from the electric gasoline pump. A Texaco truck was filling the tank when an explosion occurred and before any headway could be made in combatting the blaze it was beyond control. Oil and gasoline in the vicinity of the building fed the flames, which burned so rapidly that Mr. Bresee, his wife, and their 21-year-old son, Floyd, were unable to save any of the property from the house.

There was no insurance on the building or its contents, it was reported tonight, and the loss was estimated at $2,500. The Bresee family is at present staying at the hotel mentioned above, which is owned by Mr. Bresee. They have not yet announced any plans for the future.

The ceremony took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eurwin Jackson, 4 South Avenue, the attending witness being Mr. and Mrs. Jackson. Both the bride and bridegroom are employes of the Mary Imogene Bassett hospital.

The marriage of Miss Frances L. Palmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard B. Palmer of Hartwick, and Hilton T. Mickle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Mickle of Hartwick, was quietly solemnized yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the First Baptist church, Rev. Dr. Charles S. Pendleton officiating. After a two weeks' wedding trip through Pennsylvania and Long Island Mr. and Mrs. Mickle will take up their residence at 33 High street, where the best wishes for success and happiness of many friends in Oneonta and Hartwick will attend them.

The bride wore navy blue-chiffon with black suede slippers and a blue hat. Miss Mary Telfer of Hartwick, who attended her as maid of honor, wore a black and white crepe de chine dress with black shoes and hat. Both the bride and her maid carried garden bouquets.

William Stapleton of Worcester acted as best man.

Mrs. Mickle graduated from Hartwick High school in the class of 1924, and has since that time been employed in the Hartwick post office.

Mr. Mickle has for some time been employed in the Citizens National bank here.

Harry L. Wheeler, eight-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Wheeler of Morris, the former vice president of the Linn Trailer corporation at West End, was resting as comfortably as could be expected last evening at the Parshall hospital, although it is felt that his condition is still critical, as the result of being shot in the right side while at play Saturday in Morris. At the direction of District Attorney Donald H. Grant of this city, Sergeant John L. Cunningham of Troop C, state police, is making an investigation of the circumstances surrounding the happening.

Harry Wheeler was playing Saturday afternoon about Sprague's feed store in Morris with Richard Canfield, 16 years old, son of Mrs. Ara Sprague, whose husband conducts that business, who formerly lived in Oneonta. Canfield had been shooting birds attracted by the grain in the store, both inside the warehouse and outside, during the day with a .32 calibre rifle and about 1:40 o'clock Saturday afternoon the Wheeler lad was shot in the right side, details of the shooting still being in doubt.

Dr. F. L.Winsor who was attending another member of the Wheeler household, was at the house when word of the shooting was received, and after efforts to stop the flow of blood, he brought the lad in his car to the Parshall hospital. There Dr. Marshall Latcher, assisted Dr. Winsor in treating the lad and it was found that the bullet had struck the right side of the chest, had glanced from a rib and continued beneath the muscles in that part of the body around the lad's back, where it left the body again.

While the lad suffered from loss of blood and shock, the prompt attention which he received is strongly in his favor and unless complications develop, it is expected that he will recover.

First stories of the shooting varied considerably, but yesterday the Canfield boy said that the gun must have been discharged in some unexplained manner while in his hands or while resting near him.

It has not been considered advisable to question the Wheeler lad closely about the accident, but he related to his parents that Canfield pointed the gun in his direction.

Kenneth E. Eldred, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Eldred of Bainbridge, and grandson of the late Eugene Eldred, was graduated from Lehigh university at Bethlehem, Pa., Tuesday with a bachelor of science degree. He is a graduate of the Peddle school at Highstown, N. J. He played a prominent part in the social life of both these institutions. Kenneth Eldred is a member of the national fraternity of the Phi Sigma kappa, for two years being chairman of its rushing committee. In his freshman year he was elected to the A-70 club, an honorary scholarship society, being one of the 23 in the class of 300 to receive that honor. He will be associated with the Charles H. Eldred & Co. Inc. in the grain and coal business at Bainbridge.

At 8 o'clock on Wednesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Herring, their daughter, Enna J., became the bride of Stanley Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brown of Hartwick. Only the immediate members of the two families and a few near friends were present at the ceremony. Bride and bridegroom were unattended. The bride was charming in a gown of blue chiffon.

Rev. J. C. Rankin of Worcester, former pastor and an intimate friend of the bride's family, officiated, the ceremony being before an arch of ferns and flowers. The impressive ring service was used.

The dining room was trimmed with pink and white and the wedding cake was a fine creation, expressly made for the occasion by the Thomas Baking company of Hartwick, by which the bridegroom is employed; and a miniature bride and bridegroom featured the top.

For the past two years Mrs. Brown has been a valued saleslady of the S. S. Kresge company of Oneonta; and the bridegroom is a graduate of Hartwick High school. The presents were appropriate and beautiful and consisted of china, rugs and furniture. After a brief wedding trip they will reside at Hartwick.

Many friends of the bride and bridegroom extend best wishes for a long and happy wedded life.

Vision, were quietly married at 8:30 o'clock Saturday evening, October 10, at the Baptist parsonage in Mt. Vision, by the Rev. Clyde J. Hurlbutt, the ring ceremony being used. The bride was gowned in dark brown satin crepe, with hat to match. Her attendant in dark brown crepe, with black hat.

The couple were attended by Mr. and Mrs. David Skellie of Mt. Vision, life-long neighbors and friends of the bridal couple. They will reside at the Lake place, which Mr. Fuller recently acquired, and has been repairing.

Hosts of friends and neighbors wish the newlyweds much happiness and congratulate them as they embark on the matrimonial sea. They left Sunday morning to visit relatives at Westford and Middlefield.

A Variety Shower

On Wednesday evening friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Fuller to the number of 125 met at the home of Earl Briggs at Lena the life-long home of Mrs. Fuller for a variety shower.

Mrs. Carkee, in well chosen words in behalf of the gathering, presented to them many beautiful and useful gifts, including linen, glassware, pyrex, bridge lamps, blankets, end tables, and towels.

A delicious supper was served, at which time the bride and bridegroom were presented with a decorated cake, which they cut and which was served to all the guests.

The guests departed in the wee hours of the morning, wishing them many happy years of wedded life. Guests were present from Hartwick, Cooperstown, Mt. Vision, Laurens, Westford, Garrattsville, and South New Berlin.

Rosanna Foree of Unadilla, was united in marriage to Kenneth Griffen, also of Unadilla. The ceremony was performed in St. Matthew's Episcopal church by Rev. Yale Lyon, rector of St. Matthew's. Mrs. Belle T. Loomis presided at the organ.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her brother, Ernest L. Foree, was made a most attractive bride. She was attired in ivory satin and her veil was held in place by bands of bead trimming and orange blossoms. Her bouquet was of tea roses, and she carried a white silk handkerchief which her mother carried at her wedding 40 years ago.

Her attendant was Miss Louise Moore, sister of the groom, and her gown was of pink silk with a black lace jacket.

The ushers were Francis Griffen, a brother of the groom, and Webb Russ Lewis.

After the ceremony, a reception and luncheon was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Zollenger, uncle and aunt of the bride, after which the happy couple left for a honeymoon trip to Kentucky. On their return they will make their home in Unadilla.

There were many beautiful and appropriate wedding gifts, including silver, cut glass, china and linen. The bride's gift to the groom was a white gold watch, and groom's gift to the bride was a beautiful hand-made cedar chest.

The bride and groom are both popular young people, and their host of friends extend congratulations.

The out-of-town guests were: Mr. and Mrs. Fred B. Fowler of Sidney, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hinman of Mohawk, and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Williams and two daughters, the Misses Barbara and Julia Williams, of New Berlin.

They are enjoying a honeymoon in the south, Trooper Hemmer having a 20-day leave of absence.

Morris, July 27---Miss Mary Smith, assistant in the Morris National bank, and Lewis B. Shattuck, instructor in music at Lowville High school, were united in marriage at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Zion church here. Miss Mabel Grafton played the wedding march.

The bridal party included Carl Smith, brother of the bride, together with his wife and daughter. The mother, an aunt and a cousin of the bridegroom, all of Binghamton, were also present. Following the simple service in the church, the party drove to Mr. Smith's home, where a wedding reception was held and a luncheon was served Many friends of the young couple were present to extend congratulations and good wishes.

The numerous beautiful and useful wedding gifts that were received also showed the regard in which Mr. and Mrs. Shattuck were held by their acquaintances. Following a 10-day wedding trip the couple will be at home in Lowville, where their residence is already furnished.

Cooperstown, Oct. 28---Miss Gwen O. Owen, member of the Mary Imogene Bassett hospital nursing staff for the past year, has resigned her position and gone to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Owen in Richfield Springs. On Saturday she will be married to Dewitt Taber, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William I. Taber of Utica, in the Little church Around the Corner in New York city.

During the past week, Miss Owen has been the guest of honor at several dinners and showers. A farewell dinner and laundry shower was given her by 25 day nurses of the hospital at the Blue Anchor Tea room, and a dinner and handkerchief shower was also held in her honor by Mrs. Ainsile Buck and Miss Daisey C. Reed of Richfield Springs.

The couple will make their home in New York city upon their return from their honeymoon, where Mr. Taber is affiliated with the interests of the National Broadcasting company.

Hartwick, Feb. 18---George B. Risley and Myrtle B. Mack, both of Hartwick, were united in marriage last Saturday evening at the parsonage of the Christian church.

The ceremony was performed by Rev. R. C. Updyke, pastor of the church. Mr. and Mrs. Risley are both well known in the community and will continue to reside here. Congratulations and best wished will be extended to them from a host of friends.
