Wilson Slater, 78, 38 Cortland Street died at his home at 5:15 this
morning.
Mr. Slater was born October 18, 1876, in Preston, the
son of Porter A. and Ellen Clarke Slater. He was married to Edna H.
Scribner November 12, 1911, in Scranton, Pa. Of this union there
survive a daughter, Mrs. Donald Burr of this city.
Mr. Slater had made his home with his family in this
city for the past 12 years. Prior to moving to Norwich he had
engaged in farming at both Preston and at Mead's Pond. He operated a
dairy farm at Mead's Pond for the last 20 years before his retirement
in May of 1942.
Mr. Slater was a member of the First Congregational
Church and of the Churchmen's Fellowship of that church.
Besides the wife and daughter he is survived by a son
and a daughter by a previous marriage, Carlton A. Slater of Oxford
and Mrs. Phillip Ball of Norwich.
Six grandchildren, an aunt, several cousins also
survive.
The body is at the residence from where funeral
services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, the Rev.Avery
D. Post, pastor of the First Congregational Church officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the residence tonight
from 7 to 9 and tomorrow afternoon and evening.
Arrangements are by the Robert J. Fahy Funeral Home.
