This Afternoon
New Lisbon, July 21. --- After four and one-half
years of intense suffering Julia E. Pope, wife of Andrew S. Myers,
owner of Myers Mills, passed peacefully away at the family home
Friday at 1:20 p.m. Through her long illness she had borne her
sufferings without a murmur, and with patience that is seldom
excelled.
The deceased was born in the town of Edmeston
January 1, 1867, a daughter of Seth and Julia (Hawkins) Pope, her
early life being passed at that place and Leonardsville. She was
educated in the Edmeston High school and taught in district schools
for a number of years previous to her marriage to Andrew S. Myers of
New Lisbon, March 21, 1887. They began housekeeping and always
lived at Myers Mills, where for many years her husband has owned and
run the grist mill, she very capably assisting him as long as her
health permitted.
She was of a quiet disposition and highly esteemed,
a dear wife and mother, kind and considerate to all. Her death not
only brings deep sorrow to her family but to a wide circle of
friends.
Surviving besides her husband is an adopted
daughter, Mrs. Harry Dunbar of Butts Corners; one brother, Daniel
Pope of Edmeston; four nieces and two nephews and several cousins.
The funeral will be held at her late home Monday
afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. E. E. Hutchinson of Morris will
officiate and interment will be in Union cemetery at Edmeston.
