Ward Rainey of New Lisbon
Passes
Away
New Lisbon, July 16---Rupert Ward Rainey, 56, passed
away at his home at New Lisbon Friday afternoon. He had been in poor
health for about eight years, suffering from diabetes, yet was able
to be around and attend his duties until about three weeks ago, when
he was taken worse.
He was born near Leonardsville May 6, 1879, where
his boyhood was spent. His parents were G. Mott and Algia (Crandall)
Rainey. March 21, 1900, he married Minnie Schafer of Warnersville.
To them was born one daughter, Ruth, who died in 1921.
The family resided in Oneonta for a few years. Five
years ago he bought the late Brayton Coy place at New Lisbon, where
he had since resided and where he made many warm friends. A man of
sterling character, quiet and unassuming, he was held in high esteem.
Surviving are his wife; two sisters, Mrs. Howard
Langworthy of Orchard Park, Mrs. Bruce Bass of Leonardsville; one
brother, John D. Rainey of Otego, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held at his home Monday afternoon at
1 o'clock. Rev. L. N. Davis, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal
church at Laurens, officiated. Interment was in the family plot at
Richmondville.
