Morris, Nov. 2.---On Saturday, October 31, at 6:45 p. m., occurred the death of Lucy May Denison. Wife of William H. Smith. The deceased was born in the town of Pittsfield on January 8, 1879. She was the only daughter of Spencer and Mary (Cook) Denison. On February 8, 1899, she was united in marriage with W. H. Smith and since that time the family has resided in Morris or vicinity. The surviving relatives are her husband; a daughter, Louise Smith of Morris; a son, Charles D. Smith of Davenport Center, and three cousins, Mrs. George Weatherly of Morris, Mrs. William

Hickling of New Lisbon, and Earl Burdick of Mt. Upton.

The funeral will be held at the home this (Tuesday) afternoon at 2 o'clock with burial in Hillington cemetery, Morris.

Mrs. Smith graduated from Morris training class in 1897, after which time she taught in Morris High school and other schools in that section. About three years ago she was obliged to retire on account of ill health. Since then she has led a quiet life, tenderly cared for by the members of her family. She was confined to her bed only a few days.

Owing to her active life as a teacher, Mrs. Smith had a host of friends and acquaintances by whom she will be greatly missed. Her kindly personality and beautiful character will never be forgotten by any who came in contact with her.

Morris, Nov. 1—Mrs. Lucy smith, wife of William Smith of Elm Grove, died at her home Saturday at 6:45 o'clock. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home. Rev. C. E. Vermilya, pastor of the Methodist church will officiate.

Many Attend Funeral of Charles M. Southworth

New Lisbon, Nov. 9---Largely attended funeral services were held for Charles M. Southworth from his home here Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. E. E. Hutchinson, pastor of the Zion church of Morris, officiated and burial was in the church cemetery at Morris.

Bearers were: George Rice, Ernst Thurston, Erie Smith and Frank Durie,(?Duroe) all of whom were close neighbors of the deceased.

Mr. Southworth was born in the town of New Lisbon July 22, 1868, and was the son of Robert and Amanda Garlick Southworth. He was married September 12, 1904, to Mary Vonah Collier.

For many years he conducted a blacksmith shop in the villlage and worked at the trade until his health force him to retire. He had many friends and was a much beloved resident of the community.

Three weeks prior to his death, Mr. Southworth was stricken and forced to remain in bed. Besides his wife, he is survived by a step-son, Lewis Collier; a brother Viessen Southworth of South New Berlin; a niece, Mrs. Levi George of New Lisbon, and a nephew, Claude Southworth of Yardley, Pa.

There were many floral tributes in evidence at the funeral, testifying to the high esteem in which he was held by his many friends and relatives. Those from out-of-town attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Southworth of New Berlin, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Pugh of Unadilla Forks, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Scheff of East Orange, N. J. , and Mr. And Mrs. W. I. Smith of Cooperstown.

Morris, July 6---A pretty wedding occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Tamsett, when their only daughter, Miss Melvina Genevieve, became the wife of Harvey Lyman Sutton, only son of Rev. and Mrs. D. M. Sutton of Sidney. The ceremony, including the double ring service, was performed by the groom's father, in the presence of the immediate relatives and close friends.

The bride wore a white silk crepe gown and veil held in place with a lace cap. She carried a bouquet of white roses. Her bridesmaid was Miss Florence Sutton, sister of the groom, who wore light blue organdie and carried pink roses. Clifton Tamsett, brother of the bride, was best man.

The wedding party assembled under an arch in the living room in front of a bay window, which was decorated with baskets of canterbury bells. Preceding the ceremony, Mrs. Hobart Benjamin sang “I Love You Truly.”

She was accompanied by Mrs. Hazel Dykeman.

Immediately following the ceremony, luncheon was served on the lawn, after which the couple left for a wedding trip through the Finger Lake region. The bride wore a traveling suit of grey tweed with white accessories.

Mrs. Sutton is a graduate of Morris high school and Oneonta Normal school, and is a teacher in the Morris central school system. Mr. Sutton, also a graduate of Morris high school, attended Hartwick college one year and was five and one-half years at the Cornell school of Agriculture. At present he is senior technician of greater Binghamton district CCC, having charge of Unit three motion pictures. Both are well known in this community and the best wishes of their many friends will be extended.

They were recipients of many gifts, including dishes, linen and electrical appliances.

Cooperstown, Oct. 28---Miss Gwen O. Owen, member of the Mary Imogene Bassett hospital nursing staff for the past year, has resigned her position and gone to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Owen in Richfield Springs. On Saturday she will be married to Dewitt Taber, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William I. Taber of Utica, in the Little church Around the Corner in New York city.

During the past week, Miss Owen has been the guest of honor at several dinners and showers. A farewell dinner and laundry shower was given her by 25 day nurses of the hospital at the Blue Anchor Tea room, and a dinner and handkerchief shower was also held in her honor by Mrs. Ainsile Buck and Miss Daisey C. Reed of Richfield Springs.

The couple will make their home in New York city upon their return from their honeymoon, where Mr. Taber is affiliated with the interests of the National Broadcasting company.

New Lisbon Man Dies

H. B. Ward Stricken With Heart Trouble Friday

Expires Few Hours Later

New Lisbon, July 6---Henry B. Ward, a farmer residing at Stetsonville,

suffered a severe attack of heart trouble Friday afternoon, and passed away at midnight. He was apparently as well as usual and had his team hitched to the mowing machine to begin cutting some grass when he suddenly called for his daughter-in-law to help him into the house, as he felt badly. After a short time, he seemed better, but at about 5 o'clock he suffered another spell. Dr. Bishop was then called and found it to be his heart and possibly the effect of the heat.

Deceased was born at Preston, Chenango county, October 28, 1858. His parents were William and Harriet Ward. On December 24, 1885, he was united in marriage with Adria B. Bailey of Morris. Nearly their entire married life was passed in the towns of Morris and Butternuts. Since the death of his wife three years ago, he had resided with his son, Cyrus Ward, at whose home he died.

Surviving him are two sons, Walter of Edmeston, and the one above mentioned; three daughters, Mrs. Fred Henderson of Edmeston, Mrs. Fred Turner of Morris, and Mrs. William Rogers of Burlington Flats; also 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held in the Methodist church of Morris of which deceased was a member this Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock, preceded with a prayer at the house at 1:55 p. m. Rev. C. E. Vermilya, pastor of the local church, officiated. Interment was made beside his wife in the Chapel cemetery below Morris.

The family has the sincere sympathy of many friends in their sudden bereavement.

W. C. West Dies After Long Illness at Unadilla Home

Had Been for 40 Years Engaged in Feed Business at Stamford

Unadilla, Feb. 3---William C. West, for the past 14 years engaged in the feed business here and previous to that for more than 25 years in that same business at Stamford, died at his home in this village last evening at 9 o'clock following an extended illness with a complication of diseases. Mr. West had been in failing health for the past 20 months and for the last 18 weeks had been confined to his bed.

Funeral services will be held from the family home Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock, Rev. John T. Lyon, pastor of the Federated church of Unadilla,

officiating. Burial will be made in Evergreen Hill cemetery. Masonic honors will be accorded by the Unadilla Masonic lodge and bearers will be members of the Oneonta Elks lodge, who are residents of the village.

William C. West was born, December 21, 1868, at Middleburg, the eldest son of Abram and Anna (Shaw) West. There he spent his boyhood and with the exception of a short time spent at Glens Falls had been engaged in the feed business in Stamford and Unadilla throughout his life. He was for more than 25 years engaged at Stamford, and in 1917 moved to Unadilla, where he had continued until last October, when he disposed of his business because of the condition of his health.

Mr. West had been for 30 years, a member of the Masonic fraternity, affiliating with the Stamford lodge, and of the Glens Falls lodge, B. P. O. E. He was a quiet, unassuming man of many admirable qualities and one held in high esteem throughout this vicinity.

March 27, 1895, he married Rose Pechtel of Glens Falls, who survives him, together with two sisters, Mrs. Elmer P. Cook and Mrs. Elwin Posson of Middleburg, and one brother, Foster West of Oneonta, survives him. To them the sympathy of wide circles of friends will be extended.

Morris, July 1---Miss Katherine June Niles, only child of Mrs. Marian Newton Niles of Morris, and Harry B. Winner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Solomon A. Winner of Oxford were married at the Methodist parsonage at 10 a. m. Saturday by Rev. Dr. C. E. Vermilya, pastor of the church. The couple was attended by Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Marble of Morris, brother-in-law and sister of the groom.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Winner are well known in Morris, where their many friends will extend best wishes.
