Mrs. Leonard Place Of Morris Passes Away

Morris, Aug. 10---Mrs. Leonard Place, whose home was on the Norwich road near Morris, died Sunday morning, August 7, at 1 o'clock. For nearly 30 years Mrs. Place had suffered from mental malady which was a source of great discomfort to her and sorrow to her loved ones who

patiently ministered to her through the years. Mrs. Place was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Dilworth and was born in Morris, September 3, 1868. She was united in marriage with Leonard Place, September 3, 1886. They were married in Otego and there established their first home. Later Mr. Place took up the work of boiler making and their place of residence was several times changed. Some 25 years ago they purchased the farm on which they lived at her death.

The one son Leslie Dudlow who was born to this home, died in his early manhood, leaving a wife and three children. These children, Ina Myrtle, Ivan and Eunice, were to a large extent mothered by the deceased as best she could and they think of her as a mother. It should be said that their own mother, who is now Mrs. Summerville, has also been as a real daughter to her husband's people. She with the children and the bereft husband comprise those who bear the heavier sorrow in this separation.

The funeral was held from the house at 2 o'clock Tuesday. Rev. C. E. Vermilya, pastor of the Methodist church, with which she was affiliated was in charge, Rev. F. H. Leonard of the Universalist church assisting. The burial was in the Morris cemetery.

PS: As you will note, no where is her first name given. Perhaps it could be found on a census report. I found the term 'mental malady' interesting.

W. C. West Dies After Long Illness at Unadilla Home

Had Been for 40 Years Engaged in Feed Business at Stamford

and Unadilla—Brother of Foster West, Oneonta

Unadilla, Feb. 3---William C. West, for the past 14 years engaged in the feed business here and previous to that for more than 25 years in that same business at Stamford, died at his home in this village last evening at 9 o'clock following an extended illness with a complication of diseases. Mr. West had been in failing health for the past 20 months and for the last 18 weeks had been confined to his bed.

Funeral services will be held from the family home Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock, Rev. John T. Lyon, pastor of the Federated church of Unadilla,

officiating. Burial will be made in Evergreen Hill cemetery. Masonic honors will be accorded by the Unadilla Masonic lodge and bearers will be members of the Oneonta Elks lodge, who are residents of the village.

William C. West was born, December 21, 1868, at Middleburg, the eldest son of Abram and Anna (Shaw) West. There he spent his boyhood and with the exception of a short time spent at Glens Falls had been engaged in the feed business in Stamford and Unadilla throughout his life. He was for more than 25 years engaged at Stamford, and in 1917 moved to Unadilla, where he had continued until last October, when he disposed of his business because of the condition of his health.

Mr. West had been for 30 years, a member of the Masonic fraternity, affiliating with the Stamford lodge, and of the Glens Falls lodge, B. P. O. E. He was a quiet, unassuming man of many admirable qualities and one held in high esteem throughout this vicinity.

March 27, 1895, he married Rose Pechtel of Glens Falls, who survives him, together with two sisters, Mrs. Elmer P. Cook and Mrs. Elwin Posson of Middleburg, and one brother, Foster West of Oneonta, survives him. To them the sympathy of wide circles of friends will be extended.

Jennie Hurlbutt, widow of the late William Elliott, died at the family home near Garrattsville Sunday morning, after a few days' illness with pneumonia. She was born, February 5, 1868, in the town of Pittsfield, a daughter of Lealand and Elizabeth (Gill) Hurlbutt. After her marriage to William Elliott, they resided for a time on Gill hill, but for many years have lived on the farm where she died. She was a member of the Presbyterian church at Garrattsville for many years. Surviving are one son, Ned Elliott who resides on the home farm; a sister, Mrs. Adella Garlick of Chicago, and two grandchildren. Owing to the illness of her son and grandson the funeral will be private. It will be held Wednesday at 1 o'clock at her late home. Rev. E. E. Hutchinson of Morris will officiate. Interment will be beside her husband in Hillington cemetery at Morris.

Private Funeral Services Are Held for Mrs. Elliott

Edmeston, March 2 --- Private funeral services for Mrs. Jennie Elizabeth Elliott of New Lisbon were held yesterday from the residence of her son, Edward H. Elliott of that village. Rev. E. E. Hutchinson of Morris officiated, and burial was made in Hillington cemetery, Morris.

Mrs. Elliott died Saturday night, after a week's illness with pneumonia. Her husband, William Elliott, died about 11 years ago. Recently she had made her home with her son.

She was born at New Lisbon February5, 1868, the daughter of Leland and Elizabeth Hurlbutt. Her entire life was spent in the towns of Pittsfield and New Lisbon. Her marriage to William Elliott took place in 1890.

Surviving relatives are: The son previously mentioned; a sister, Mrs. Adella L. Garlick of Chicago, Ill., and two grandchildren, Donald and Maxine Elliott.
