Ralph C. Petersen

GARRATTSVILLE — Ralph C. Petersen, 89, of Garrattsville, N.Y., and Stockton, Calif., died Monday, July 29, 2002, at Chase Nursing Home in New Berlin, N.Y., where he had been a resident since May 1997.
He was born in Boston on Aug. 31, 1912, the son of Aksel Nicholas Petersen and Magda Carolina Wilhelmina (Sorensen) Petersen.
He is survived by his younger brother, Russell Petersen of Garrattsville; his niece Karin Catania and her husband, Philip, of Garrattsville; his nephew Eric Petersen and his wife, Diane, of Colonie. Grandnephews include Dr. Lucien Catania and his wife, Kathleen, Dr. Adrien Catania, Knut Catania, Jenee and Bret Petersen.
He was predeceased by an older sister, Bertha Hyatt, and a younger brother, Ross.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater of Operations.
After his professional life as an optician he retired to Garrattsville to live with his niece Karin for 15 years.
Ralph was a solitary man, but he touched many lives in ways in which even he was not aware.
Memorial services will be held Friday, Aug. 2, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Donald Boardman officiating at Chase Memorial Nursing Home in New Berlin.
Keeping with Ralph's wishes, he was cremated at the Hillington Crematory in Morris.
There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.
