DAVENPORT CENTER—Charles
D. Smith, 56, proprietor of Square Deal Garage in Davenport Center,
was fatally stricken with a heart attack while at work Monday
morning. He died before arrival of Oneonta Emergency ambulance.
Funeral services will be held Wednesdayat 2 p. m. in
Lewis Funeral Home in Oneonta, the Rev. William Heaps, pastor, Elm
park Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Hillington
Cemetery, Morris.
Mr. Smith was born Oct. 29, 1903, in the Town of
Pittsfield, the son of William H. and Lucy Denison Smith. He married
Berniece Brainerd, Jan. 25, 1924, in Oneonta. She died april 25,
1950. On Aug. 6, 1953, he married Edith (Craig) Sargent.
Mr. Smith had owned and operated the Square Deal
Garage for the past 34 years. He was a former resident of Oneonta
and Morris. He was a member of the Davenport Center Methodist
Church.
He is survived by his wife; a sister, Mrs. Charles
Hunt of Bloomville; eight grandchildren and six nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Lewis Funeral Home at their
convenience after 3 p.m. Tuesday.
