Hollis, Edwin wed to Alice Cornell
Wilkes-Barre Wedding About 1934
Hollis—Cornell
Miss Alice Cornell, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. R. L.
Cornell of 161 Parrish Street, and Edwin Hollis of Endicott, N. Y.,
son of Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Hollis of Wyalusing, were married at 11
o'clock this morning in the parsonage of the Parrish Street M . E.
Church with the bride's father officiating. The ceremony was
performed in front of the fireplace which was banked with dahlias.
There were no
attendants.
The bride wore eagle blue transparent velvet with
real lace trimming and rhinestone buckle, with slippers to match and
carried white roses.
A reception and breakfast for twenty guests followed
at the parsonage. Mr. and Mrs. Hollis later left on a motor trip.
Her going away costume was a gray ensemble with accessories to match.
The couple will reside in Endicott.
The bride attended school at Morris, N. Y., and
studied music at Wyoming Seminary. She and her parents have resided
in Wilkes-Barre since April, having come here from Wyalusing where
her father was pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The
bridegroom is a graduate of Wyalusing High School.
During the week the bride was entertained at a number
of parties. The Sunday School Class of which she is a member
tendered her a variety shower at the home of Miss Ruth Davey on
McLean Street. She was also the guest of honor at a variety shower
held at the home of Mrs. John Bakun of Iona Place. Last night the
Young Woman's Missionary Society of the Parrish Street M. E. Church
tendered her a shower at the home of Mrs. George Zurner on Brown
Street.
Out-of-town guest in attendance at the wedding were:
Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Hollis of Wyalusing, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hollis of Binghamton, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Cornell
and daughter Elaine, Walter Cornell of Edmeston, New York, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Van
DeMark, Mrs. Thomas McHenry of Endicott; Ruth Hollis of Berea, Ohio---Times
Leader Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, September 16th.
Addendum: There is no year listed for their marriage, but it may be around 1934. I am estimating that year from another item on that page of the scrapbook.
On the 1940 census, I found this family living in Vestal, Broome County, NY. His
estimated date of birth was 1909 and his occupation was listed as a draftsman in a machine shop and she was a housewife.
