L. Baker Dies at 69
NORWICH, ---Howard
LeRoy Baker, 69, former Ontario and Western Railroad engineer, died
Saturday at his home, 29 Fair st., following confinement at home
during the last three weeks. He had been in failing health since
last March when he was forced to retire.
Baker was born in Oxford, son of Joseph E. and Anne
Wheeler Baker. On
Oct. 5, 1904 he was married to Elizabeth King at their
present residence on Fair st.
He leaves his widow; one sister, two nieces, Mrs.
George Sleeper and Miss Grace Colton, Sherburne; one nephew, J.
Clifford Baker, Sherburne.
The body will lie at rest at the family home from 10
A.M. Sunday morning till 3 P.M. Monday at which time the body will be
removed to the Robert J. Fahy Funeral Home. Services will be held
Tuesday at 2 P.M. The Rev. Thomas Swales officiating. Burial will
be in the family plot in Mt. Home Cemetery.
Using Ancestry.com for research, on the 1910 census,
Howard was 31 years old.
No where on the census reports through the years were
any children listed. As far back as 1910, Howard was listed as a
railroad engineer and also on the 1940 census, he was listed as a
steam railroad engineer.
According to his headstone on Find a Grave, his birth
year was 1878 and he died March 8, 1947.
