Gorton,
Charles 1852-1934 New Lisbon Obituary
Lifelong
Resident of New Lisbon Succumbs
New Lisbon, Jan. 15---Charles Gorton, an aged and
lifelong resident of the town of New Lisbon, died at his home at
Garrattsville at 1:30 this morning from the infirmities of age. He
was 81.
Mr. Gorton was a son of Joseph and Mary Ann (Reed)
Gorton. He was born and had always lived on the farm where he died.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie Barcom, whom he married 30 years
ago.
The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at
the home. Rev. Stanley Moody; pastor of the Presbyterian church, will
officiate. Interment will be in the Butternut Valley cemetery.
According to the 1900 census, Charles Gorton was born
February 1852.
Going further back on census reports, his father was
born about 1819 and his mother about 1822. He appears to have been an
only child, and there are no children apparent for Charles and
Jennie. They were married about 1904 and at age 81, I estimate
his year of death about 1934. He was still listed as a dairy farmer
on the 1930 census.
