BUTTERNUTS — Douglas Macumber Bailey, 74, of Butternuts, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 5, 2002, at his home.
He was born on Nov. 17, 1927, son of the late George and Pauline Macumber Bailey in Butternuts.
Doug was raised in the area and attended Gilbertsville Central School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945. Doug served during World War II and the Korean Conflict and was awarded the following medals: Victory, American Theater, Asiatic Pacific, Korean Service, United Nations, Chine Service, Navy Occupation Service and Good Conduct. In 1952, he was honorably discharged as Radar man 2nd Class.
Doug married Bernadette O'Hearon in 1952, and worked for General Electric in Utica and New Hartford for 16 years.
They moved their family to Westfield, Mass., and Doug was employed by the Westfield Chemical Co., until he retired in 1988.
Doug enjoyed being with family and was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, camp and garden.
He is survived by his wife, Bernadette Bailey of Butternuts; his children, James and Bonnie Bailey of Churchton, Md., Diane and John Capalario of Manchester, N.H., Robert and Myra Bailey of Canastota, Douglas and Jamie Bailey of Arlington, Texas, Karen and Bruce Duval of Westfield, Mass., and Sheila and Francis Beary Jr. of Lee, N.H.; brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Geraldine Bailey of South New Berlin; sister, Eleanor Merritt of Afton; uncle Donald and Ethel Macumber of South New Berlin; mother-in-law, Muriel O'Hearon of Sidney; 20 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2002, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, at 21 Main St. in Sidney, with the Rev. Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service.
Memorial contributions may be made in Doug's name to the Gilbertsville Emergency Squad or the American Heart Association.
Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc. Funeral Chapel of Sidney.

"The death of Mrs. Julia Baker, which was briefly mentioned last week, occurred at the home of her son, Allen Brimmer, Sunday, March 13th, of pneumonia. She was born November 11, 1849, the only daughter of Allen and Clarissa (Baker) Gardner. She was born and lived all her life, excepting a few years spent at Milford, on the farm about one-half mile from where she died. In December she went to the home of her son, Allen, to spend the winter. She was married to Albert Brimmer October 10, 1867, and he died July 5, 1905. Three children were born to them: Clara, who died at the age of 5; Allen, who died three days after his mother, and Laselle, who survives. She also leaves four grandchildren Grace, Geneva, Albert and Jesse Brimmer. She later married Warren L. Baker of Milford, who died June 14, 1918 ... Burial was in the Welcome cemetery." New Lisbon, March 21---Funeral services for Mrs. Julia (Brimmer) Baker were held at the Presbysterian church at Garrattsville, Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Clyde J. Hurlbutt of Mt. Vision, assisted by the Rev. J. C. Calhoun, officiated. Friends from out of town who attended were: Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Aspinwall, of Westford: Mrs. Mary Gardner, Courtney and Arthur Hoose of Mt. Vision.

The bearers were Leonard Hammond, William Blanchard, Courtney Hoose and Arthur Hoose. Interment was made in Welcome cemetery.

GARRATTSVILLE — Thomas J. Baker, 43, of Garrattsville, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
He was born April 13, 1958, in Amsterdam, the son of Thomas W. Baker and Ethelyn Mae (King) Baker.
He was married to Chastidy Winkler on Sept. 11, 1999, in Garrattsville. He and his wife had operated their own dairy farming business in Garrattsville.
Tom had resided in the Garrattsville area for the past 16 years and was formerly of the Fonda area.
He is survived by his wife, Chastidy of Garrattsville; his three children, Kristoffer Baker of Mohawk, and Tara Baker and Thomas J. Baker Jr., both of Garrattsville; four brothers, Timothy Baker of Gilbertsville, John and Richard Baker of Garrattsville, James Baker of Ames; a sister, Denise Lewis of Mount Upton; his parents, Ethelyn Baker of Garrattsville and Thomas Baker of Tribes Hill. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends also survive him.
He was predeceased by a niece, Katlin Hill; and his maternal grandparents, Henry and Ethel King.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, with the Rev. Patricia Olmstead officiating. Burial will be in the Hillington Cemetery in Morris. Calling hours will be from noon on Wednesday until service time at 2 p.m.
Those who wish are asked to donate to the Garrattsville Emergency Squad in Tom's memory.

TRIBES HILL — Thomas Wilbur Baker, 72, of Tribes Hill, died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, as a result of a farming accident.
He was born July 7, 1929, in Neversink, the son of Arthur and Edith (Parish) Baker.
He was married to Ethelyn Baker of Garrattsville.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and worked all of his life as a dairy farmer.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Denise Lewis of Mount Upton, Timothy Baker of Gilbertsville, John Baker, Richard and (Amanda) Baker, and a daughter-in-law, Chastidy Baker, all of Garrattsville, and a son, James Baker of Ames.
He is also survived by his brothers, Ralph and (Melba) Baker of Amsterdam, Cecil and (Carol) Baker of Tribes Hill, John and (Caroline) Baker and Virgil Baker of Florida, N.Y., Robert and (Cheryl) Baker of Amsterdam; and a sister, Mary and (Gene) McGinnis of Amsterdam.
He was blessed by his grandchildren, James Baker Jr. of Amsterdam, Robert, Sarah, Courtney, Andrew, Tara and Thomas Baker Jr., all of Garrattsville, Kris Baker of Mohawk, Rebecca and Stefnie Baker of Gloversville, and Jessica Lewis and Ashley Hill of Mount Upton; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Thomas J. Baker; a sister-in-law, Beverly I. Monk; a granddaughter, Katlin Hill; and his brothers, Harry and Floyd Baker.
Calling hours will be from 1 p.m. until service time. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 22, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, with the Rev. Thomas Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Hillington Cemetery in Morris.

MORRIS — Betty J. Benjamin, 71, of Morris, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at Otsego Manor.
Betty was born in Cooperstown, the daughter of James and Phoebe (Hotaling) Dodge. Betty married Sonny Benjamin on Feb. 20, 1959, at the United Methodist Church of Morris.
Betty was employed at Corning in Oneonta for 20 years as an assembler. Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church of Morris. She enjoyed doing word searches, flower gardening, playing cards with her grandchildren and visiting with her friends.
Betty is survived by her husband of 54 years, Sonny Benjamin; children, Samuel Benjamin (Alison), Joseph Benjamin, Brenda Stetin (Lawrence) and James Benjamin (Melanie); her brothers, George and Robert Dodge; grandchildren, Lucas Benjamin, Stacey Benjamin, Chelsea Stetin, Joshua Benjamin, Matt Seifert, Jessica Trask; and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was predeceased by three brothers, Harold, Richard and James Dodge.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, at the United Methodist Church in Morris with the Rev. Nancy Stanley officiating. A private burial of ashes will be held at the convenience of the family.

GILBERTSVILLE — Betty Jane Cisotto, 68, of Gilbertsville passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at The Hospital in Sidney.
She was born Dec. 17, 1933, daughter of the late George and Pauline Alverson Travis in Walton.
Betty owned and operated Butternut Valley Adult Home in Gilbertsville for several years, she retired in May of 2002.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Veda and Robert Neish, Phoenix, and Lorri and Mark Kendrick, Sidney; two sons, Max Steinbacher, Norwich, and Eugene Steinbacher, New Jersey; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gertrude and Raymond Bullis, Sidney, and Ramona and Ronald Peterson, Unadilla; brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Joan Travis, Hendersonville, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Tonya, Jessica and Gregg Neish, Rick, Matt, Chelsea Steinbacher and Mark Kendrick; and ex-husband of 32 years, Eugene Steinbacher, Kentucky.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Crumb, Harold H. 1922-2002 Morris NY Obituary

MORRIS — Harold H. Crumb of Morris died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
Harold was born on Harris Hill in the town of Morris on March 12, 1922. He was the son of Virgil W. Crumb and Elsie May (Harris) Crumb. When he was 3 years old, his parents moved from the farm to the village of Morris, which Harold called "home" his entire life. His mother passed away when he was 10.
At an early age (mid-teens) he worked for the Linn Manufacturing Corp. as a night watchman, shop maintenance person, water wheel operator and fireman of the coal- and oil-fed furnaces, working 14 hours each night for three nights a week: Friday, Saturday and Monday. He was thus employed for two years and four months. Morris Central School graduated Harold in 1939.
At the conclusion of his employment, above, he moved to Albany for the purpose of attending Albany Business College, from which he graduated.
During World War II and it conclusion Harold was a member of the New York State Guard, Adjutant General's staff, field finance (payroll) division, being discharged as a technical sergeant.
He was employed for four years during legislative sessions as clerk to Assemblyman Chester T. Backus, and as a statistician in the Education Department in off-times. He worked briefly as a stock transfer tax examiner for the state Department of Taxation and Finance.
In 1945, he joined the state comptroller's newly formed Division of Municipal Affairs, from which he retired in 1988. During this time he served, variously, as chief examiner in the Syracuse and Binghamton geographic areas.
Harold was a lifetime member of the Morris United Methodist Church. He was a Free and Accepted Mason for 60 years, his blue lodge being Butternuts No. 515, and had a similar tenure as a 32 Mason in the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of the Valley of Albany. He was also a member of Englewood Elks Lodge No. 2378.
He was a certificated public accountant. Harold was an avid hunter and fisherman. Woodworking was a chief hobby, possibly superseded by construction with stones.
He married Marilyn Ida Whitney in 1951 in Oneonta. They made their home in the village of Morris.
Harold is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, of 50 years; a daughter, Rebecca M. Crumb of New York City; a son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Pamela Crumb; and granddaughter, Lauren of Carlisle, Pa., a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Shari Crumb; and granddaughters, Elizabeth and Katherine of Sedalia, Colo.; and a half-brother, Stephen of Duncanville, Texas.
A younger brother, Wilmer, predeceased him.
Graveside committal and Masonic services will be at the Hillington Cemetery in Morris at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at the United Methodist Church in Morris, with the Rev. Ann Blair officiating.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make contributions to the United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, Morris, NY 13808 or the Masonic Brotherhood Fund, care of Butternuts Lodge No. 515, P.O. Box 288, Gilbertsville, NY 13776.
