"The death of Mrs. Julia Baker, which was briefly mentioned last week, occurred at the home of her son, Allen Brimmer, Sunday, March 13th, of pneumonia. She was born November 11, 1849, the only daughter of Allen and Clarissa (Baker) Gardner. She was born and lived all her life, excepting a few years spent at Milford, on the farm about one-half mile from where she died. In December she went to the home of her son, Allen, to spend the winter. She was married to Albert Brimmer October 10, 1867, and he died July 5, 1905. Three children were born to them: Clara, who died at the age of 5; Allen, who died three days after his mother, and Laselle, who survives. She also leaves four grandchildren Grace, Geneva, Albert and Jesse Brimmer. She later married Warren L. Baker of Milford, who died June 14, 1918 ... Burial was in the Welcome cemetery." New Lisbon, March 21---Funeral services for Mrs. Julia (Brimmer) Baker were held at the Presbysterian church at Garrattsville, Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Clyde J. Hurlbutt of Mt. Vision, assisted by the Rev. J. C. Calhoun, officiated. Friends from out of town who attended were: Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Aspinwall, of Westford: Mrs. Mary Gardner, Courtney and Arthur Hoose of Mt. Vision.

The bearers were Leonard Hammond, William Blanchard, Courtney Hoose and Arthur Hoose. Interment was made in Welcome cemetery.

Widely Known Bone-Setter Succumbs

After Long Illness—Had Visited Otsego County

For Past 40 Years

Dr. Ira Smith Sweet, humanitarian and bone-setter, widely known throughout this section, and a frequent visitor to Oneonta, died at his home in Utica yesterday morning about 2:30. He had been ill for nearly a year, having discontinued his monthly visits to this city in August when his daughter, Dr. Florence Sweet Schafer of Utica, took over the work.

Born March 14, 1849, in Amsterdam, Dr. Sweet learned the bone-setting profession from his father, practicing in his youth on injured animals until he attained a remarkable proficiency. It is interesting to note that the family profession is being carried on by two of his three daughters and his son.

A bone-setter since early youth, Dr. Sweet was well known in Otsego county, having once lived on a farm in Edmeston. His monthly visits to this county had been continued for over 40 years, and hundreds had acclaimed him for his skill in this profession, fast becoming rare. His many friends in Oneonta and throughout this section of the state will sincerely mourn his passing.

The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from his late home in Utica. Rev. Oliver U. Chapman, pastor of the Tabernacle Baptist church of Utica, will officiate at the obsequies. Interment will take place in the cemetery at Brookfield, about 30 miles from Utica.

Dr. Sweet leaves three daughters, Dr. Schafer and Mrs. Herve Fiske, an artist, of Utica, Mrs. Fred Camenga of New Berlin, also a bone-setter, and Dr. Samuel Sweet of Utica, a son. Following in his father's footsteps, Dr. Sweet taught the intricacies of his profession to those of his children who were inclined to follow his bent.

Morris, March 21---Morris has lost in the death of Mrs. Ella Mansfield another of the lifetime residents of the village. She passed away on Friday last after a long and trying illness, very patiently borne, at her late home after a critical illness of a few days only. She was born on the East hill in a farm home in 1849, and had always been one of our number. Bishop Tuttle baptized her and she was later confirmed by Bishop Horatio Potter of the diocese of New York.

Her husband, Vernon Mansfield, to whom she was married in 1895, died several years ago.

Her nephew, Howard Coggeshall, now of Utica, and a few other nephews and nieces, are the only ones left to mourn her passing, save a large circle of friends who have long known her. She loved her church though of late able to attend but little at the services.

The funeral was held at Zion church on Sunday last at 2 o'clock, and the attendance was all that one could expect and her flowers were beautiful pieces. Her parents were Jacob and Christine Coggeshall, both of whom died many years ago.

Came to America When a Small Child

New Lisbon, July 29---Mrs. Lizzie Benjamin, widow of William G. Benjamin, passed away Tuesday morning, after many months illness.

She was born in Scotland, September 26, 1849, a daughter of William Renwick and Janette Davidson. The family came to America when she was a small child. About 60 years ago she married William Grose Benjamin. Most of their married life was passed on a farm near New Lisbon Center. Since the death of Mr. Benjamin, January 19, 1920, she had resided with her brother.

Mrs. Benjamin was from girlhood a faithful and devoted member of the Baptist church at New Lisbon Center, a woman of noble mind and unblemished character, always thoughtful of others in times of sickness and sorrow.

Surviving are two brothers, John Renwick and George Renwick of New Lisbon and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral was held at her late home Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Rev. Stanley Moody, pastor of the Presbyterian church, officiated.

Interment was in the family plot in Butternut Valley cemetery at Brick Schoolhouse.

Mrs. Benjamin Dies

New Lisbon, July 26---Mrs. Lizzie (Renwick) Benjamin, 82, widow of William Benjamin, died about 9 o'clock this morning at the home of her brother, George Renwick. Death followed a long illness caused by heart and Bright's disease. The funeral will be held at 1:30 Thursday from the home, with burial in the Brick Schoolhouse cemetery.

Sunday Afternoon

New Lisbon, July 12---The remains of Charles Bingham, a former resident here, were brought here from Groton Sunday afternoon for burial beside his wife in Butternut Valley cemetery at Brick School house.

Death was the result of a shock. He was 83 years of age and for a number of years had resided with his daughter, Mrs. Nellie Jones, at whose home he died. The family were residents of Garrattsville for several years before they moved to Hartwick and later to Groton.

Besides the daughter, he is survived by another daughter, Mrs. Donald Yates of Groton; one son, Hubert Bingham of Auburn, and several grandchildren.
