Virginia H. Place
LAURENS — Virginia H. Place, 72, of Laurens died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
She was born Aug. 10, 1929, in Laurens, the daughter of Clayton and Ella Harrington.
She married Gerald A. Place on Sept. 12, 1948. Mr. Place predeceased her on May 22, 2002.
A lifelong area resident, Virginia worked as a bookkeeper for the Grand Union Co. in Oneonta.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Loretta Place of Laurens; her sister, Agnes Sullivan of Cooperstown; her brother and sister-in-law, Nelson and Marion Harrington of Otego; two grandsons, Mark Place of Laurens, currently attending the State University at Albany, and Sgt. Craig Place of the U.S. Army base at Ft. Leonardwood, Mo.; nieces and nephews, Douglas and Carolyn Rose of Oneonta, Rena Rose of Laurens, Dottie and Bob Linger of Oneonta, Thomas and Sue Harrington of Herkimer, Kathy Harrington of Unadilla, Dave and Mary Southern of Otego, Bob and Mary Southern of Oneonta, Wayne Sullivan and his wife of Cooperstown, and Dale Sullivan of Cooperstown.
Virginia was predeceased by a grandson, Thomas Place in 2000; and a sister, Kay (Lila) Southern in 2001.
A graveside memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at the Laurens Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Taylor, pastor of the St. Andrews Episcopal Church in New Berlin, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820 in loving memory of Virginia H. Place.
Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Sargent, Laura 1949-2002 Oneonta NY Obituary

Laura Sargent
ONEONTA — Laura Sargent, 53, of Oneonta passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at her residence after a lengthy illness.
She was born Nov. 10, 1949, to Everett and Doris (Marx) Sargent, in Oneonta.
She was never married.
Until ill health forced her retirement, Miss Sargent was a teacher's aid at the Oneonta Middle School.
She was a life long area resident and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Oneonta.
Laura loved animals and owned several cats and dogs.
She is survived by a brother, Frances (Bo) Sargent of Holly Springs, N.C.; two nephews, Travis and Phillip Sargent; and one aunt, Carrie Marx of Endicott.
Memorial services will be held at a time to be announced next week at the First Presbyterian Church in Oneonta, with the Rev. Edward Carlson, pastor officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Burial will be later in Brookside Cemetery, Gilbertsville.
Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St. in Oneonta.

Schwarze, Helen A. (McKeever) 1908-2002 Garrattsville NY Obituary

GARRATTSVILLE — Helen A. Schwarze, 94, of Garrattsville and formerly of Williston Park on Long Island, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
She was born Oct. 31, 1908, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Thomas and Donalda (Cote) McKeever.
She married George F. Schwarze on June 29, 1929. He predeceased her on Feb. 11, 1962.
Helen was a member of the Church of the Nativity in Edmeston.
She had previously been employed by Sperry Gryoscope in Great Neck as an analyst. After retirement she relocated to Garrattsville to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
Helen had a great love for all her family, spending many hours knitting, crocheting, or tatting beautiful sweaters and afghans.
She was also very proud of being a blood donor.
Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Roger Nelsen; two grandchildren and their spouses, Peter and Sue Nelsen, and Sue and Tim Eschler; four great-grandchildren, Danny, Holly, Candance and Dana; her brother, Robert McKeever; and her sister, Dorothy Morganstern.
She was also predeceased by her sister, Donalda Ellsworth.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at The Church of the Nativity, Edmeston, with Fr. John Burns officiating.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston. Burial will be at Hillington Cemetery following the funeral service.
Contributions may be made in Helen's memory to the Garrattsville Emergency Squad.

EDMESTON — Christy M. Schworm, 32, of Edmeston passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at her home with her family by her side.
She was born Feb. 16, 1970, in Wareham, Mass., the daughter of Doug and Joy (Jones) Beeching.
A resident of Edmeston from the age of 2 1/2, Christy was a graduate of Edmeston Central School and Milford BOCES Nursing School.
Christy married Robert A. Schworm on Oct. 9, 1993.
Christy was a member of the First Baptist Church, New Berlin.
She was employed at the Edmeston/Burlington Health Clinic in Edmeston.
Her great smile, gentle touch and warm personality greeted everyone at the clinic, and will be greatly missed.
Christy is survived by her husband, Bob; and her two daughters, Kaylee, 6, and Brianna, 3. Her mother, Joy Beeching of Edmeston; her father, Douglas Beeching and his wife, Helen, of San Benito, Texas; her sister, Connie McCarthy and her husband, Pat, of New Windsor; her brother, James R. Beeching and his wife, Theresa of Leonardsville; the entire Schworm family of Edmeston; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A private family service is being arranged by the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home of Edmeston at Christy's request.
In lieu of flowers, Christy requested donations be made in her memory to the Edmeston Rotary Club, P.O. Box 223, Edmeston, NY 13335, making it possible for the Rotary to continue to help others in need as they deem necessary.

MIDDLEFIELD — Marion Sprague, 91, of The Meadows and formerly of Oneonta died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at The Meadows in Middlefield.
She was born in Morris on June 21, 1911, the daughter of Delos and Florence E. (Bailey) Livingston.
She was married to Milton Osborn and then to Harold Sprague. They are both deceased.
As a child, she attended the one-room schoolhouse in Dimmock Hollow. She lived a full rich life and was loved by all her family and friends and will be missed by all.
She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Predmore and husband, LeRoy of South Otselic; her grandchildren, Barbara Young of Sherburne and Bill Cane of New Berlin; several great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and great-great-great-grandchildren; making five generations.
She was predeceased by a son, Robert Osborn; and granddaughter, Shirley Hollenbeck.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, with the Rev. Keith VanDewerker of the West End Community Baptist Church officiating. Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. on Wednesday until service time at 1 p.m.
Burial will be in Hillington Cemetery in Morris at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

She was born July 6, 1965, in Oneonta, the daughter of George Fitch and Jean (Stensland) Fitch.
She married B. Jay Stebbins in Plymouth, on Jan. 1, 1996.
She was employed as a machine operator and assembler at the Burt Rigid Box Inc. of Oneonta.
She enjoyed gardening and her family and friends.
Carla is survived by her husband, B. Jay Stebbins, of Gilbertsville; her sons, Levi Turner Stebbins and Benjamin Jessie Stebbins, both at home; her mother, Jean Stebbins of Gilbertsville; a brother, Robert Fitch and his fiancee, Amy Johnson; several aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces; and her extended family at Burt Rigid Box; and a special friend, Joannie.
Her father, George Fitch, predeceased her.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2002, at the Gilbertsville Baptist Church in Gilbertsville, with the Rev. Randolph Palada and the Rev. Scott Harding officiating.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.
Burial and committal services will be in the Butternuts Valley (Copes Corners) Cemetery in the town of Butternuts.
Friends are invited back to B. Jay Stebbins' home following the services.
