Edith M. Crandall
ONEONTA — Edith (Edie) M. Crandall, 63, of Oneonta passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at the Robinson Terrace Nursing Home in Stamford.
She was born April 8, 1939, in Morris, the daughter of Aaron P. and Edna Eldred.
She worked for many years, until her retirement, as a housekeeping manager for the Super 8 Motel in Oneonta.
Edith will be remembered for her very strong faith and her dedication as a member and volunteer at the Salvation Army Church, where she taught Sunday School.
Edith was a loving, caring mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Merlin Crandall, of Oneonta; her three daughters, Valerie Hoffman and Edward Keeley of Davenport Center, Laurie Hanvey and Chad Smith of East Meredith, and Christie Southern of Binghamton. Four brothers, Benjamin Eldred and his spouse, Melody of Oneonta, Donald Eldred and his spouse, Kerrie of Oneonta, Kenneth Eldred of Oneonta, and Harold Hammon of Maryland; a sister-in-law, Elsie Davis; many nieces and nephews.
Her parents and a brother, Aaron Eldred Jr. predeceased her.
Funeral and committal services will be held Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Capt. Michael Knepp of the Salvation Army Church officiating.
Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home from noon until the time of the funeral service at which time the family will be in attendance.
Burial will take place in the spring in Hillington Cemetery, Morris.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Johnson, Earl Clinton 1924-2013 Oneonta NY Obituary

ONEONTA-JOHNSON, EARL CLINTON; Earl Clinton Johnson, 89, of Oneonta passed away Friday, August 2, 2013 at Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta, with his wife Rita of 48 years by his side. He was born the son of Leo L. Johnson and Hazel B. (Ricks) Johnson. He married Rita Dunn on August 10, 1964 in Bristol CT. Earl Served his country from 1943 to 1946 in the United States Army receiving honors; Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the American Service Medal. He was employed by Beacon Feed and later began his own business, Earl C. Johnson Enterprise, which he ran for thirty-five years. Earl was a member of the American Legion, he enjoyed carpenter, plumbing and electrical work. He enjoyed listening to 40’s music, traveling and spending time with his family. He is survived by his two sons, Earl L. Johnson (Brooke) and Tad C. Johnson (Leslie); his three daughters Bobbie Martindale, Lark Byam (Keith), and Patricia Moore (Bill); his grandchildren, Matthew, Josh, Rachael, Stacia, Lori, Sarah, Robert, Kevin, Ethan, Emma and many great grandchildren. Earl was predeceased by his brothers and sister. Calling Hours will be held at Johnston Funeral Home in Morris on Friday, August 9, 2013 from 11:00am to 12noon with Military Honors immediately following. Sargent, Laura 1949-2002 Oneonta NY Obituary

Laura Sargent
ONEONTA — Laura Sargent, 53, of Oneonta passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at her residence after a lengthy illness.
She was born Nov. 10, 1949, to Everett and Doris (Marx) Sargent, in Oneonta.
She was never married.
Until ill health forced her retirement, Miss Sargent was a teacher's aid at the Oneonta Middle School.
She was a life long area resident and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Oneonta.
Laura loved animals and owned several cats and dogs.
She is survived by a brother, Frances (Bo) Sargent of Holly Springs, N.C.; two nephews, Travis and Phillip Sargent; and one aunt, Carrie Marx of Endicott.
Memorial services will be held at a time to be announced next week at the First Presbyterian Church in Oneonta, with the Rev. Edward Carlson, pastor officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Burial will be later in Brookside Cemetery, Gilbertsville.

Tamas, Hilda (Perkins) 1914-2002 Oneonta NY Obituary

Hilda P. Tamas
ONEONTA — Hilda Perkins Tamas, 88, of Oneonta passed away early Oct. 3, 2002, with comfort care at the Oneonta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on July 19, 1914, in the township of West Burlington, Otsego County. She was the daughter of Grover and Agatha Telfer Perkins.
She married Joseph Tamas on Sept. 5, 1970, at the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Fairfield, Conn.
Mrs. Tamas (Perk) grew up in Otsego County, attending Hartwick and Morris schools.
She worked at the Knox School in Cooperstown.
Then she moved to Bridgeport, Conn., where she lived for 40 years. She was employed at the Bridgeport Brass Co. and later in the office of the Baird Machine Co.
She and her husband returned to the area in 1982.
Mrs. Tamas was a loyal member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the St. Mary's Rosary Society until illness prevented her from attending.
She had been a resident of the Oneonta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center since June 2000.
She always enjoyed being with relatives, friends and neighbors.
Mrs. Tamas was predeceased by her husband, Joseph in April 1987.
She is survived by two sisters and their husbands, Thelma and Kenneth T. Lally of Schenectady and Diana and Howard Marlette of Mount Vision; three nieces and their husbands, Cheryl and Arne Christensen of LaGrangeville, Mary and James R. Crouthamel of Sussex, N.J., and Jeanne and Richard Stalker of Clinton Corners; six great-nieces and nephews; and cousins, John A. Telfer of Selkirk and Mary Godfrey of North Syracuse.
Calling hours will be held on Monday at the funeral home from 12:30 to 2 p.m., at which time the family will be present.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. John Rosson, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church, Cooperstown, officiating.
Burial will follow at the Hartwick Cemetery, Hartwick.
Mrs. Tamas' family sincerely wishes to express its appreciation to the entire staff of the Oneonta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful compassionate care that they gave to Hilda.

Donald Van Dusen
ONEONTA — Donald Van Dusen, 82, of Oneonta, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
He was born May 12, 1919, in the town of Butternuts, the son of John and Elsie (Webler) Van Dusen.
Don was a lifelong area resident. At one time he was a dispatcher for an Oneonta taxi company and also drove the bus for the Oneonta Green Thumb Program. He enjoyed gas engines and going to the gas engine shows and fishing.
He is survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.
Don was predeceased by three brothers, John Henry, Leo and Doyle Van Dusen.
Funeral and committal services will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Norman Tiffany, retired Methodist minister, officiating. Burial will be private at the Sand Hill Cemetery, Unadilla. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time, at which time the family will be present.

ONEONTA _ Juna A. Richards, 90, of Oneonta and formerly of Rockdale, passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born June 6, 1922, daughter of the late David B. and Hazel (Holdredge) Adams in Morris. Juna graduated from Morris Central School with Class of 1941, and attended the Utica School of Commerce.

She married William Richards on Nov. 9, 1946, in Morris. He predeceased her on Oct. 31, 1999.

Juna was a legal secretary for the Brown Law Office in Norwich when she retired in 1981.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Ralph Hinkley, Roanoke, Ind.; son, Frank and Karen Richards, Yarmouth, Mass.; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also predeceased by a daughter, Kathyann; a brother and a sister. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Benjamin Shaw officiating. Burial will be in Hillington Cemetery in Morris.

ONEONTA — Mrs. Mary C. Stanhouse, wife of the late Rosslyn J. Stanhouse, of Oneonta, died at the Eddy Ford Nursing Home, Cohoes, on Monday, Sept. 6, 1999.
Mrs. Stanhouse was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School, the State University College at Oneonta and attended Albany State College.
She was a former member of the faculty of the schools of Brunswick. Mrs. Stanhouse continued her teaching career in the Oneonta public school system, from which she retired.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Oneonta, the American Legion Auxiliary of Post 259 of Oneonta, the New York State Retired Teachers Association, the Otsego Retired Teachers Association, former member of the Oneonta Woman's Club and the Beach Manor Villa Association of Venice, Fla.
Mrs. Stanhouse is survived by one son, Wayne R. Stanhouse of Marietta, Ga.; one granddaughter, Jennifer Stanhouse of Atlanta; two sisters, Mrs. Vincent (Ruth) Roarke of Brunswick, and Mrs. Carl (Alice) Spalt of Sycaway; two brothers, Clarence Calhoun of Brunswick, and Robert Calhoun of Melrose; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday evening, Sept. 8, 1999, at 7 p.m. at the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, Troy. Graveside funeral services at the West Oneonta Cemetery will be private. Mrs. Stanhouse's family will be present at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, on Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999, from 1 to 2 p.m. for those who wish may call.
