GILBERTSVILLE — Marie Z. McKenna, 94, of Gilbertsville, passed away Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at Chase Nursing Home in New Berlin.
She was born April 14, 1908, in Hoboken, N.J., the daughter of Francis and Mary (Hayes) Zeller.
She was married to Stephen P. McKenna in 1932, in the St. Michael's Monastery in Union City, N.J. Stephen died in October of 1973.
She was employed by Bristol-Meyers for many years and more recently was employed by Norwich Furniture Inc., retiring in 1973.
She had formerly resided in Ridgefield, N.J., in her younger years.
A daughter, Patricia Stensland and her husband, Mike, of Gilbertsville; five grandchildren, Linda Holt, Diane Stensland, Michele Birdsall, Michael Stensland and Stephen D. McKenna, survive her. She was also blessed by nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Stephen McKenna.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Oct. 28, 2002, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Morris, with the Rev. John Burns officiating.
Committal service and burial will be in the Brookside Cemetery in Gilbertsville.
Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Schwarze, Helen A. (McKeever) 1908-2002 Garrattsville NY Obituary

GARRATTSVILLE — Helen A. Schwarze, 94, of Garrattsville and formerly of Williston Park on Long Island, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
She was born Oct. 31, 1908, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Thomas and Donalda (Cote) McKeever.
She married George F. Schwarze on June 29, 1929. He predeceased her on Feb. 11, 1962.
Helen was a member of the Church of the Nativity in Edmeston.
She had previously been employed by Sperry Gryoscope in Great Neck as an analyst. After retirement she relocated to Garrattsville to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
Helen had a great love for all her family, spending many hours knitting, crocheting, or tatting beautiful sweaters and afghans.
She was also very proud of being a blood donor.
Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Roger Nelsen; two grandchildren and their spouses, Peter and Sue Nelsen, and Sue and Tim Eschler; four great-grandchildren, Danny, Holly, Candance and Dana; her brother, Robert McKeever; and her sister, Dorothy Morganstern.
She was also predeceased by her sister, Donalda Ellsworth.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at The Church of the Nativity, Edmeston, with Fr. John Burns officiating.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston. Burial will be at Hillington Cemetery following the funeral service.
Contributions may be made in Helen's memory to the Garrattsville Emergency Squad.

Mulqueen, Matty 1908-2002 Morris NY Obituary

Matthew "Matty" Mulqueen
MORRIS — Matty Mulqueen, 93, of Morris, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at his home in Morris.
He was born on Nov. 11, 1908, in Brooklyn, the son of John and Mary (Hearn) Mulqueen.
He was married to Jane DeFriesse on April 28, 1928, in the Bronx. They had been married for more than 69 years at the time of her death on Dec. 27, 1997.
He had worked as a bartender for many years and more recently as the maintenance supervisor for the New York State Police Troop C Headquarters in Sidney for 10 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Mulqueen were caretakers at the Copes Corners Park in Gilbertsville for more than 16 years.
He had resided in the Butternut Valley for more than 47 years.
He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Moose Club and the Elks Club.
Matty is survived by his children, Mary Fontana and her husband, Larry, of Lindenhurst, Clara Mulqueen of Tennessee, Matthew A. Mulqueen of North Hill, Calif., and Joan O'Brian of California.
He was blessed with many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and special friends, who loved him dearly.
A brother, Simon Mulqueen, predeceased him.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2002, and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2002, at the Johnston Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2002, at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Burns officiating.
Committal services and burial will follow at the Hillington Cemetery in Morris.
Those who wish are asked to donate to the Morris Emergency Squad in his memory.

NEW BERLIN — Alice Daniels Barber Weller, 93, of New Berlin, and formerly of Deltona, Fla., died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Florence and Wayne Aldrich.
She was born April 22, 1908, in Butternuts, the daughter of Frank and Elma (Culver) Daniels.
She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters; and one son, Howard L. Barber.
She married William L. Barber, who died in 1970.
She is survived by three children, Albert Barber and wife, Marian, of Walton, Dora M. Carr of Galway, and Florence Aldrich and husband, Wayne, of New Berlin.
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She married John Weller, who predeceased her in 1992.
Alice attended a one-room schoolhouse until eighth grade. She graduated from Gilbertsville Central School and Oneonta Normal School. In high school and normal school, she played basketball and softball.
At age 7, she learned to drive a team of horses, and raked hay for her father and her grandfather during the summers.
Alice lived in Mount Vision for many years, and worked at the Oneonta Dress Factory.
In 1970, she relocated to Florida, and worked making custom drapes until retiring at age 74. After retiring, she enjoyed going to plays, competing in outdoor shuffleboard leagues, a bowling league and playing cards with her friends. She continued this until reaching the age of 90.
She was a very talented seamstress, who also enjoyed crocheting and gardening. Alice was an avid reader right up to the time of her death.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815 in loving memory of Alice D. Weller.
A memorial service will be held at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Kurt Funke, pastor of the South New Berlin Baptist Church, officiating. The family will be in attendance at 1 p.m. to greet friends.
Burial will take place at the Hillington Cemetery, Morris, at a later date.
Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

GILBERTSVILLE — Ruth S. Musson, 93, of Home Acres in Gilbertsville, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at the Harding Nursing home in Waterville.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ruth's memorial service today, Saturday, Feb. 2, at 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, at 19 Marion Ave. (Route 51) in Gilbertsville, with Dr. Rev. Donald Boardman officiating. Ruth's family will receive friends at the conclusion of the service.
She was born June 15, 1908, in Norwich, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late Crosby J. and Ruth Jaynes Smith and received her education in Norwich, graduating with the Class of 1925. She furthered her education at Albany Teachers College, where she graduated in 1929. Ruth began her teaching career in Morris, N.Y., where she taught Latin and French until 1940.
Ruth was married to A.B. Musson on Oct. 19, 1940, in the Episcopal Church in Norwich. She moved to Home Acres and soon left the teaching profession to raise her children, but later resumed it as a substitute teacher in area schools.
A.B. passed away on Sept. 30, 1999, after a loving union of 59 years.
Ruth's memberships include the First Presbyterian Church in Gilbertsville, where she taught Sunday school and was active for many years. Ruth was also a member of the Tianderah Chapter of the DAR, having served as its corresponding secretary. She was also a member of the Girl Scout Council.
In addition to being a most-dedicated wife and mother, Ruth was a gentle person whose love, selfless, devotion and courage have been a constant source of strength and support to her family. They will miss her deeply and remember her with smiles, well-deserved respect and much fondness.
Ruth is survived by her loving family of three daughters and a son and their families, Martha (Marty) and Carl Gus of Sauquoit, N.Y., and their two children, Michael Gus and Tammy and Carl Kilborne; Dorothy Reed of Kansas City, Mo., and her son, Dana; Molly and Chuck Hall of Hamilton, N.Y., and their four children Heather, Dan, Travis and Sarah; and Scott and Anne Musson of White River Junction, Vt., and their three children Ben, Sam and Will; a sister-in-law, Bobbie Musson; a nephew, Bill Musson; nieces, Robbie (Musson) Corcoran, Andrea (Smith) Buer, Betsy Smith, Mary Jane Schaeffer and Anne Kellogg; cousins, John and Winifred Smith and Rosalyn Jaynes Staeuble and family.
Ruth was predeceased by her brother Andres in 1997.
Donations in Ruth's memory may be made to the Gilbertsville Free Library or the Major's Inn Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the memorial service or donations may be mailed to Martha Gus at 3061 Oneida St., Sauquoit, NY 13456.
Ruth's family extends their heartfelt appreciation to their mother's caregivers, Pat, Ginnah, Madeleine and Judy, and to the entire staff at the Harding Nursing Home for their exceptional and compassionate care and dedication.
