Ruth S. Musson
GILBERTSVILLE — Ruth S. Musson, 93, of Home Acres in Gilbertsville,
passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at the Harding Nursing home in
Waterville.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ruth's memorial service
today, Saturday, Feb. 2, at 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church,
at 19 Marion Ave. (Route 51) in Gilbertsville, with Dr. Rev. Donald
Boardman officiating. Ruth's family will receive friends at the
conclusion of the service.
She was born June 15, 1908, in Norwich, N.Y. She was the daughter of the
late Crosby J. and Ruth Jaynes Smith and received her education in
Norwich, graduating with the Class of 1925. She furthered her education
at Albany Teachers College, where she graduated in 1929. Ruth began her
teaching career in Morris, N.Y., where she taught Latin and French until
1940.
Ruth was married to A.B. Musson on Oct. 19, 1940, in the Episcopal
Church in Norwich. She moved to Home Acres and soon left the teaching
profession to raise her children, but later resumed it as a substitute
teacher in area schools.
A.B. passed away on Sept. 30, 1999, after a loving union of 59 years.
Ruth's memberships include the First Presbyterian Church in
Gilbertsville, where she taught Sunday school and was active for many
years. Ruth was also a member of the Tianderah Chapter of the DAR,
having served as its corresponding secretary. She was also a member of
the Girl Scout Council.
In addition to being a most-dedicated wife and mother, Ruth was a gentle
person whose love, selfless, devotion and courage have been a constant
source of strength and support to her family. They will miss her deeply
and remember her with smiles, well-deserved respect and much fondness.
Ruth is survived by her loving family of three daughters and a son and
their families, Martha (Marty) and Carl Gus of Sauquoit, N.Y., and their
two children, Michael Gus and Tammy and Carl Kilborne; Dorothy Reed of
Kansas City, Mo., and her son, Dana; Molly and Chuck Hall of Hamilton,
N.Y., and their four children Heather, Dan, Travis and Sarah; and Scott
and Anne Musson of White River Junction, Vt., and their three children
Ben, Sam and Will; a sister-in-law, Bobbie Musson; a nephew, Bill
Musson; nieces, Robbie (Musson) Corcoran, Andrea (Smith) Buer, Betsy
Smith, Mary Jane Schaeffer and Anne Kellogg; cousins, John and Winifred
Smith and Rosalyn Jaynes Staeuble and family.
Ruth was predeceased by her brother Andres in 1997.
Donations in Ruth's memory may be made to the Gilbertsville Free Library
or the Major's Inn Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the
memorial service or donations may be mailed to Martha Gus at 3061 Oneida
St., Sauquoit, NY 13456.
Ruth's family extends their heartfelt appreciation to their mother's
caregivers, Pat, Ginnah, Madeleine and Judy, and to the entire staff at
the Harding Nursing Home for their exceptional and compassionate care
and dedication.
Arrangements are with the J. Donald Smith Funeral Home in Sauquoit.
