GILBERTSVILLE — Ruth S. Musson, 93, of Home Acres in Gilbertsville, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at the Harding Nursing home in Waterville.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ruth's memorial service today, Saturday, Feb. 2, at 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, at 19 Marion Ave. (Route 51) in Gilbertsville, with Dr. Rev. Donald Boardman officiating. Ruth's family will receive friends at the conclusion of the service.
She was born June 15, 1908, in Norwich, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late Crosby J. and Ruth Jaynes Smith and received her education in Norwich, graduating with the Class of 1925. She furthered her education at Albany Teachers College, where she graduated in 1929. Ruth began her teaching career in Morris, N.Y., where she taught Latin and French until 1940.
Ruth was married to A.B. Musson on Oct. 19, 1940, in the Episcopal Church in Norwich. She moved to Home Acres and soon left the teaching profession to raise her children, but later resumed it as a substitute teacher in area schools.
A.B. passed away on Sept. 30, 1999, after a loving union of 59 years.
Ruth's memberships include the First Presbyterian Church in Gilbertsville, where she taught Sunday school and was active for many years. Ruth was also a member of the Tianderah Chapter of the DAR, having served as its corresponding secretary. She was also a member of the Girl Scout Council.
In addition to being a most-dedicated wife and mother, Ruth was a gentle person whose love, selfless, devotion and courage have been a constant source of strength and support to her family. They will miss her deeply and remember her with smiles, well-deserved respect and much fondness.
Ruth is survived by her loving family of three daughters and a son and their families, Martha (Marty) and Carl Gus of Sauquoit, N.Y., and their two children, Michael Gus and Tammy and Carl Kilborne; Dorothy Reed of Kansas City, Mo., and her son, Dana; Molly and Chuck Hall of Hamilton, N.Y., and their four children Heather, Dan, Travis and Sarah; and Scott and Anne Musson of White River Junction, Vt., and their three children Ben, Sam and Will; a sister-in-law, Bobbie Musson; a nephew, Bill Musson; nieces, Robbie (Musson) Corcoran, Andrea (Smith) Buer, Betsy Smith, Mary Jane Schaeffer and Anne Kellogg; cousins, John and Winifred Smith and Rosalyn Jaynes Staeuble and family.
Ruth was predeceased by her brother Andres in 1997.
Donations in Ruth's memory may be made to the Gilbertsville Free Library or the Major's Inn Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the memorial service or donations may be mailed to Martha Gus at 3061 Oneida St., Sauquoit, NY 13456.
Ruth's family extends their heartfelt appreciation to their mother's caregivers, Pat, Ginnah, Madeleine and Judy, and to the entire staff at the Harding Nursing Home for their exceptional and compassionate care and dedication.
Arrangements are with the J. Donald Smith Funeral Home in Sauquoit.

Mrs. Anna B. Smith, 75, of Unadilla, died Sunday at 11 am. In Unadilla. She is survived by three grandchildren, Phillip Smith, of Syracuse, Mrs. James Kauzlarich, of Evanston, Ill., and Miss Randall Rae Smith, of Albany; two great grandchildren, Ann Louise Kauzlarich, and John Howard Kauzlarich, both of Evanston, Ill. She was born in Masonville, N. Y. October 3, 1881, the daughter of Hiram K. and Mary (Herrick) Boice. She married Howard Smith, of Sidney Center, in Sidney, May 14, 1903. Mr. Smith died several years ago. She had been a resident of Unadilla for about 40 years, and was a past matron of Order of the Eastern Star of Unadilla, a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Unadilla, and served as Otsego County Democratic Committeewoman for several years. Friends may call at the Smith home in Unadilla at their convenience. Arrangements by the Joyce Funeral Chapel, Unadilla.

Edmeston, Jul 15 (Special)--- Miss Mabel E. Parker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren H. Parker of Edmeston, and Curtis C. Ackerman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Ackerman of West Burlington, were united in marriage yesterday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home of the bride's parents.

Miss Iva Welch, of Port Jervis, a Normal school classmate of the bride, presided at the piano, playing the Lohengrin wedding march as the bridal party entered the room, which was prettily decorated with a profusion of flowers.

The bride was charming in a gown of maise chiffon with hat and shoes to match. She carried a shower bouquet of yellow and white roses caught with orange blossoms. The bride was given in marriage by her father.

The bridesmaid, Miss Grace Parker, a sister of the bride, wore a gown of blue georgette and carried an arm bouquet of sweet peas. The best man was Giles Nicholes of Ithaca.

Following the ceremony the bridal party with relatives and immediate friends returned to the home of the bride's parents, where a reception and wedding dinner was held.

The bride is a native of Edmeston and is a graduate of the Edmeston High school. For the past two years, she has been attending the Oneonta Normal school, after previously teaching for two years in the Burlington school districts. The groom is a graduate of the Port Jervis High school and also attended Rutgers university. He is now engaged in the occupation of farming on his father's farm at West Burlington.

After a short wedding journey to New York and Atlantic City, the couple will return to make their future home in West Burlington. The bride wore a traveling suit with hat and shoes to match as her going-away outfit.

The couple are very popular and the younger set of their community and their many friends extend to them congratulations and best wishes

Frank C. Boice

Garrattsville---Frank C. Boice, 74, retired farmer, of Garrattsville, died May 22, 1953, in Utica Memorial Hospital, after a long illness.

He was born in Tacoma on Mar. 8, 1879, son of Hiram and Mary Herrick Boice. He was a direct descendant of Hiram Knickerbocker Boice. He married Leona E. Brooks of New Lisbon on Feb. 21, 1909.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Edward F. Gale, Utica; three sons, Hiram of Sherburne, Arthur of New Berlin, and Zeland of Garrattsville; six grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Howard W. Smith, Unadilla.

The funeral will be at 2 p. m. Tuesday in the Methodist Church at Garrattsville, the Rev. Kenneth Gombert, pastor, officiating. Gurial will be in Hillington Cememtery, Morris.

Addendum: His father was actually Hiram Knickerbocker Boice, so that is correct, but otherwise, as written it doesn't make sense.  He is a direct descendent of the NY Knickerbocker family near Albany, as are all people with the name of Knickerbocker in their family.   Added by Donna Boice Davenport,  granddaughter of Frank C. Miss Chamberlain is employed at the Julius Kayser plant at Walton,

and Mr. Boice, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Boice, is an employee of

the Otsego County Highway department.

Miss Mary Boice attended the wedding of her brother, Hiram Boice,

to Grace Irene Chamberlain, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Chamberlain

of Walton, NY, Saturday, June 21, in the Methodist Church, Walton.

The marriage service was conducted by the Rev. Henry Lincoln.

Following the ceremony a reception for 85 guests was held in the

church parlors. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Boice were former residents of Sidney.
