Mrs. Anna B. Smith

Mrs. Anna B. Smith, 75, of Unadilla, died Sunday at 11 am. In Unadilla. She is survived by three grandchildren, Phillip Smith, of Syracuse, Mrs. James Kauzlarich, of Evanston, Ill., and Miss Randall Rae Smith, of Albany; two great grandchildren, Ann Louise Kauzlarich, and John Howard Kauzlarich, both of Evanston, Ill. She was born in Masonville, N. Y. October 3, 1881, the daughter of Hiram K. and Mary (Herrick) Boice. She married Howard Smith, of Sidney Center, in Sidney, May 14, 1903. Mr. Smith died several years ago. She had been a resident of Unadilla for about 40 years, and was a past matron of Order of the Eastern Star of Unadilla, a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Unadilla, and served as Otsego County Democratic Committeewoman for several years. Roscoe Smith, son of Postmaster and Mrs. Howard Smith is seriously ill with pneumonia at his home and is being cared for by Mrs. Brown, a nurse from the Fox Memorial hospital in Oneonta.

Roscoe B. Smith, 27, died Tuesday afternoon at his home in Unadilla, following an attack of pneumonia. Mr. Smith was born at Otego, June 1, 1907. He is survived by his parents, Postmaster and Mrs. Howard Smith, and a brother, Gerreth Smith, of Unadilla.

About three years ago Mr. Smith operated the gas station at the corner of Birdsall and East Main streets. He was a member of the Norwich lodge of Elks.

Funeral services will be held from the home at 1:30 Saturday afternoon and at 2 o'clock from the Episcopal church in Unadilla.

Popular Unadilla Man Dies Following

Complications Due to Pneumonia

UNADILLA, April 17,---Roscoe Bernard Smith, 28, died at the home of his parents Tuesday afternoon at 1:15 o'clock after an illness of five weeks from complications following pneumonia.

He was born in Otego, June 1, 1907 and was the younger son of Postmaster Howard W and Anna (Boice) Smith. Nearly all his life was spent in Unadilla, moving here with his parents from Otego when he was about four years old.

He was graduated from the Unadilla High School with the class of '25. He was a member of St. Matthew's Epsicopal Church, a teacher in the church school, and for several years has been acolyte in St. Matthews. He was a member of the Unadilla Rod and Gun Club and of the Norwich Lodge, P. P. O. E.

For several years he was employed in Norwich by the Standard Oil Company, returning to Unadilla in 1932 when he became associated with his father in the lumber business. He was census enumerator for 1935 for the Town of Unadilla.

The funeral will be held Saturday with a prayer at the home at 1:30, followed by a service at St. Matthews at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Yale Lyon, rector of that church will conduct the service. Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery.

Surviving are his parents, one brother, Garreth Smith, one niece, Sally Ann; one nephew, Phillip Smith all of Unadilla; four uncles, Frank Boice of Garrattsville, George and Rupert Smith of Unadilla, Raymond Smith of Schenectady; four aunts, Mrs. N. E.Wilcox, Mrs. Charles Eldred of Bainbridge, Mrs. William Jones of Sidney Center and Mrs. George Fowlston of Oneonta.

Are Largely Attended

Unadilla, April 21---The funeral of Roscoe Bernard Smith, who died at his home Tuesday, was largely attended Saturday. There was a prayer service at the home at 1:30, followed by a service at St. Matthew's Episcopal church, of which he was an active member. Rev. Yale Lyon, rector of the church, conducted the service. Burial was made in Evergreen Hill cemetery.

There were many floral tributes, including tributes from the neighbors of Martin Brook street, Maple avenue and Depot street: the B. P. O .E. of Norwich; St. Paul's church, Franklin; Unadilla Democratic club; the faculty of the Central school; children of bus No. 2, and from the employes of the post office.

Included among the friends and relatives from away were: Dr. and Mrs. Charles Herrick, Albany; Lieutenant and Mrs. Harold Herrick and son, Warren, Malone; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Boice and family, Garrattsville; Mr. and Mrs. Jones, Sidney Center; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Smith, Schenectady; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ashton and daughters, Leone and Dorothy; Mrs. Catherine Ashton, Mrs. Agnes Sharpe, Miss Betty Buzton, Mrs. Goerge Hard, Garfield Watkins, Miss Gertrude Pinney, Norwich; Mr. and Mrs. L. V. Soule, Mrs. Versa Heck, Mrs. George Fowlston, Oneonta; Mrs. Freda Howard, Harry Edison, Laurens; Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Wilcox and daughter Margaret and Mildred; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Eldred, Bainbridge; Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Fowlston, Franklin; Harold Smith, Sheridan Smith, Scotia.
