Wakeman, Henry 54 years Walton, NY Obituary

Wakeman, Henry 54 years Walton, NY

Obituary
----------
Henry Wakeman

Henry Wakeman died at his home on Third Brook, about
four miles above Walton, Saturday afternoon, July 18, at two o'clock after an illness of only seven days. The disease of which he died was typhoid pneumonia, brought on by a heavy cold. He at first refused to give up to the sickness but kept sturdily about his work until compelled to abandon it. He leaves a wife and seven children, the oldest of which are grown to manhood and womanhood. Mr. Wakeman was one of the best known men in the town. He had a large circle of friends and acquaintances throughout the county. He comes of one of oldest and most respected families of the town; his grandfather, Eliphalet Wakeman, was among Walton's early settlers, removing here from Connecticut. He has always lived on the place which he occupied at the time of his death, and which was his father's before him. His house was a synonym for hospitality and good cheer. His latch string was always out. He was a kind friend and an excellent neighbor, ever ready to help any in need of help. He will be greatly missed from the community to which he lived. He was still in the prime of manhood, being only fifty-three years of age at the time of his death. His funeral, Monday, July 20, was one of the largest ever held in this section and shows the high esteem in which he was held. He was buried in the family plot in the Walton cemetery.
