SIDNEY --- Mrs. Laura C. Spencer, 88, of 37 Smith St., Sidney, died Thursday, November 25 at The Hospital Sidney after a short illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 27, at St. Paul's episcopal Church, Sidney, with the Rev. Irving F. Ballert Jr., rector, officiating.

Burial will be later in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Mrs. Spencer was born Nov. 15, 1883 at Trout Creek, the daughter of Alonzo and Ada (Fritts) Chamberlain. She was married to William G. Spencer, March 4, 1914. He died in October 1954.

She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sidney, and the Unahanna Rebekah Lodge no. 213, Sidney.

Mrs. Spencer is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Harriette Hayes of Sidney, Mrs. Margaret Grant of Kelly Corners, Mrs. May Nichols of Ilion, and Mrs. Elizabeth Allen of Fairport; a brother, Fred Chamberlain of Claremont, Calif.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two nieces and two nephews.

Friends may call at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sidney at their convenience after 1 p.m. Friday. The family will be in attendance 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Funeral arrangements are by the C. H. Landers Chapel Sidney.

The rest of the notice was the same as the one above. The spelling of her name should be Lura instead of Laura.

Miss Nelberta Ann Armstrong, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Armstrong, New Lisbon, became the bride of James Perry Stafford, son of Mrs. Elsie Stafford and the late Frank Stafford, New Lisbon, on Saturday, October 17.

A double ring service was performed by the Rev. Joseph Quinn in Holy Cross Catholic Church here before an altar decorated with white cluster chrysanthemums.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a ballerina length gown of white nylon lace with pearl trim and lace mitts to match. A silk illusion long veil was fastened to a pearl trimmed tiara and she carried a pearl studded prayer book trimmed with white carnations.

The bride's only attendant was her sister, Mrs. Gloria Wessel, Binghamton, who wore a dress of pink satin in princess style and carried an old fashioned nosegay of white mums.

The best man was Donald Armstrong, New Lisbon, brother of the bride.

Mrs. M. Walkdin of Edmeston was organist.

Ushers were Lynn Hoyer of West Winfield and Lynn Harris, Morris.

A reception for 50 guests was held at the home of the bride's parents at New Lisbon.

The bride's table was decorated with silver candelabra, white mums and a three tiered wedding cake.

Afterwards the couple left for a wedding trip to Washington, D. C., Philadelphia, Pa., and Maryland. Upon their return they will reside in Norwich for a time until their new home at New Lisbon is completed.

The bride attended Liberty High School and for some time before her marriage was employed in Bresee's at Oneonta.

The bridegroom is a graduate of Morris Central School and a veteran of World War Two. He is a member of the Masonic Lodge, F &AM, in Morris, and is employed at General Laboratories in Norwich.

The Methodist Church at Garrattsville was the setting for the marriage of Miss Lois Ann Ward, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ward of Garrattsville, and Ralph Stanley Stafford, son of Mrs. Elsie Stafford of New Lisbon and the late Frank Stafford.

Baskets of mixed flowers decorated the church for the ceremony which took place Sunday afternoon and was performed by the Rev. Samuel Little.

Miss Barbara Hull, Garrattsville, played traditional wedding music at the piano and accompanied Miss Beverly Ward, sister of the bride, and Clarence Gregory, vocal duet.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride was gowned in eggshell nihon voil with long full sleeves, scalloped yoke, fitted bodice and a full skirt with short train. A shoulder length veil of the same material was fashioned to a head band of matching satin ribbon and flowers. She carried an arm bouquet of ivory roses.

Mrs. Harold Hand attended her sister as matron of honor gowned in light green nylon net over taffeta with short sleeves and full skirt. She wore a matching headdress and carried an arm bouquet of yellow carnations.

Clarence Stafford of Schenectady, brother of the bridegroom, served as best man.

Mrs. Ward chose a gown of grey, rose and white print with black accessories. Mrs. Stafford, mother of the bridegroom, wore a blue and white print gown. Each wore a corsage of white carnations.

The ushers were James Stafford of New Lisbon, brother of the bridegroom, and Harold Hand of West Laurens, brother-in-law of the bride.

A reception was held at the home of the bride's parents for the immediate families and close friends.

The bride's table was decorated with white candles and a three tier wedding cake made by Mrs. Clarence Stafford. The family table was decorated with a centerpiece of pink and white carnations and white candles.

Returning from a wedding trip to Utica, Old Forge and Adirondack Mountains, the couple will live at New Lisbon.

Marriage Announced

New Lisbon --- Mrs. Flora Pearl Carr, New Lisbon, became the bride of James T. Strait, 383 Chestnut St., Oneonta, at a ceremony performed Saturday night at the bride's home by the Rev. J. Ross McCloy, pastor of the Garrattsville United Presbyterian Church.

Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Vivan Tilyou, West Oneonta.

For her wedding, the bride chose a dress of navy nylon crepe with a corsage of white chrysanthemums and baby breath.

Mrs. Tilyou wore a navy flowered Bemberg dress and a corsage of red roses and baby breath.

Following the ceremony, a wedding luncheon was served by Mrs. Charlotte Vassar, New Lisbon, and Mrs. Gertrude Hickling, West Oneonta.

Following a wedding trip, the couple will live at New Lisbon.

Mrs. Manda Tilley Dies Friday in Pittsfield

Funeral Services Monday at Laurens M. E. Church

Mrs. Manda K. Tilley, who was born in Laurens township in September, 1842, and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orson Cook of that township, died Friday at 12:30 p. m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mark VanSteenberg, in the town of Pittsfield, after three and a half years' illness which at last developed into pneumonia. She was very tenderly cared for by her son-in-law and daughter, above named and during the last two weeks they were assisted by Mrs. Tilley's niece,  Mrs. Cora Risendorph.  Her husband, who was John Tilley, died over 36 years ago.

Prayer services will be held at the home today (Monday) at noon and will be followed by the funeral at 1:30 p.m., at the Laurens Methodist Episcopal church. Rev. Mr. Crispell, pastor of the Laurens church, will officiate and interment will be in the family plot in the Laurens cemetery.

Besides the daughter above named she is survived by one son, Orson Tilley of Laurens, and a grandson, Ray Tilley, of Mt. Vision, and also by several nieces and nephews. The sympathy of many friends is extended in this bereavement.

One 'Wright' Name Leads to Many Family Members!

     Kathryn Hill, an active Find A Grave volunteer, posted an obituary for Amy Florence (Hollister) Wright.  She also requested a photo of the gravestone.  Requests for local cemeteries are automaticly sent to me since I signed up for that.  I always check them out for leads as well as cemetery locations, especially cemeteries that I haven't heard of.
     In the obituary, it mentioned that Amy had a son Frank Wright.  I know a Frank Wright, but the one I know locally wasn't of the right age.  However, knowing how names are passed down in families over and over, my curiosity was peeked.  The Frank Wright I know from our Senior Center is in his 90s and as spry as they come and sharp as a tack.  Lo, and behold, after putting in some information on Ancestry Search,  Amy turned out to be Frank's GRANDMOTHER!   Who would have thought it would be a 94 year old's grandmother?  I was thinking, MAYBE, his mother. The father of this Frank Wright was Gad Wright, another of her 5 sons.
     I spent the rest of the afternoon and most of the evening on Ancestry.com plugging in name after name and generation after generation from that one bit of information.  With marriages, it led to the names of Gregory, Benjamin, Renwick, and Hume to list just a few of the prominent Butternut Valley names and many of them are buried at Butternut Valley Cemetery.  I pulled up the Butternut Valley Cemetery list and could match up more people that way as well.  Also, several of the people were included on my surname list with further information on their obituaries.
     I wish you fun in researching your family genealogy.  With the internet and all the tools we have available to us, it can be a very rewarding adventure.

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — Renfred Andrew Walling, 61, of New Britain, Conn., died Friday, April 16, 2004, in Norwich.
He was born Feb. 2, 1943, in New Berlin, the son of Renwick and Eleanor (Vanwarner) Walling.
His ex-wife, Margaret Walling, survives him.
He spent his childhood in the Bainbridge and New Berlin areas. He attended Central New York School for the Deaf in Rome.
He was a CNC machinist for the Ripley Company of Cromwell, Conn.
Renfred is survived by his son, John Walling of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter, Jennifer and Juan Dominguez of Hartford, Conn.; three grandchildren, Kai and Evan Walling and Kobe Dominguez; one brother, Clayton Walling of South New Berlin; one aunt, Gessie (Ruth) Hoag of South New Berlin; and nephews, Troy, Kevin and Robert Walling.
There are no calling hours.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today, April 19, 2004, at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, with the Rev. Charles Taylor of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, New Berlin, officiating.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.
