Dies Suddenly at Home

New Lisbon, June 24---Mrs. Ruth Smith, aged 26, died suddenly at her home in Pittsfield this morning at 9 o'clock, after about 12 hours illness. Her infant son also died.

The funeral will be held at the family home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in Union cemetery at Edmeston.

Ruth Wright was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gad Wright of Pittsfield, and was born April 20, 1909. She was united in marriage to Harold Smith at Garrattsville March 31, 1928, and most of her life was spent at New Berlin and Pittsfield.

She was a graduate of Oneonta High school in the class of 1927. After her graduation, she held a position for a time in the N. Y. O. & W. station at New Berlin. A young woman of many endearing ways, she was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her.

Besides her husband, she leaves two small children, Howard, aged five, and Norman, aged three; her parents; one sister, Mrs. nelson Joy, and a brother, Frank Wright, bot of Pittsfield; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne Pittsley, also of Pittsfield; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

Mrs. Ruth Wright Smith, 26, died suddenly Monday morning, June 24, 1935, at her home in Pittsfield.
She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gad Wright, born in Pttsfield, April 20, 1909. She married Harold Smith, Garrattsville, March 31, 1928, and had resided in New Berlin and Pittsfield practically all her life. She was graduated from Oneonta High School in 1928 and worked for the N. Y. O. & W. station at New Berlin.
Besides her husband and parents she leaves two children, Howard and Norman; one sister, Mrs. Nelson Joy; one brother, Frank Wright, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Pittsley, Pittsfield. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the family home at 2 p. m. 

Clipping from 1929:  Birth of a Son:  Mr. and Mrs. Bert Smith received announcement Tuesday of the arrival of a baby boy, born Tuesday morning to their son and Daughter-in-law,  Mr. and Mrs. Harold Smith at New Berlin.  The mother was formerly Miss Ruth Wright of this place.  Their many friends extend congratulations.

Mrs. Manda Tilley Dies Friday in Pittsfield

Funeral Services Monday at Laurens M. E. Church

Interment in Laurens Cemetery

Mrs. Manda K. Tilley, who was born in Laurens township in September, 1842, and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orson Cook of that township, died Friday at 12:30 p. m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mark VanSteenberg, in the town of Pittsfield, after three and a half years' illness which at last developed into pneumonia. She was very tenderly cared for by her son-in-law and daughter, above named and during the last two weeks they were assisted by Mrs. Tilley's niece,  Mrs. Cora Risendorph.  Her husband, who was John Tilley, died over 36 years ago.

Prayer services will be held at the home today (Monday) at noon and will be followed by the funeral at 1:30 p.m., at the Laurens Methodist Episcopal church. Rev. Mr. Crispell, pastor of the Laurens church, will officiate and interment will be in the family plot in the Laurens cemetery.

Besides the daughter above named she is survived by one son, Orson Tilley of Laurens, and a grandson, Ray Tilley, of Mt. Vision, and also by several nieces and nephews. The sympathy of many friends is extended in this bereavement.

BALIUS BURDICK

Balius Thomas Burdick, a well known and respected resident of Pittsfield, passed away at his home Thursday, March 29^th. He had been in failing health for some time, but only confined to his bed a few days. The immediate cause of his death was Bright's disease.

Deceased was a son of Nelson and Anna (Caldor) Burdick, and was born near Elm Grove in 1841. He was a cooper by trade, but had followed farming in recent years.

He was twice married, his first wife being Sarah Perkins and his second wife, who survives him, was Johanna Cook. Others left to mourn his demise are, two daughters, Mrs. George Burdick of Unadilla and Mrs. William Hickling of New Lisbon, and a son, Earl, of Rockwell's Mills; one sister Mrs. Eliza Ellis of Morris, and two grand-children, Percy Burdick and Claudine Hickling.

The funeral was held at his late home Sunday afternoon, Rev. C. C. Volz of Morris officiating. The remains were placed in the vault in Hillington cemetery.

The family wish to express heartfelt thanks to neighbors and friends for the many acts of kindness given during the illness and death of the beloved husband and father.
