Mrs. Vera E. Howes

WALTON --- Mrs. Vera E. Howes, 87, died May 28 in Delaware Valley Hospital.

Funeral service is at 2 p.m. Sunday in Lyon Brothers Chapel, the Rev. William Bartz officiating. Burial will be in the Walton Cemetery.

Mrs. Howes was born Jan. 25, 1882, in Loomis, a daughter of Abram L. and Henriot (Austin) Boice. She was married in November, 1903, to Frank C. Howes, at Loomis. Her last residence was Trout Creek.

She was a housewife and attended Trout Creek Community Church. She was a past member of Trout Creek Grange.

Surviving are one son Hiram Howes of Trout Creek, a daughter Doris Kinney of Trout Creek; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Friends may call at their convenience at Lyons Brothers Chapel, Walton. The family will be in attendance Saturday, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Betsy Wakeman was his first wife, but she died in her twenties.

Alford J. Boice was born to Abram Ladieu 1837-1918 and Henriot 1847-1937 (Austin) Boice. He married twice. First to Amber M. Henderson 1882-1967 in 1905. They had one son, Elmo in 1906. Second, he married

Florence N. Nichols 1885-1958. They had one son, Herman A. Boice 1921-2009.

Walton Woman Dies at 81

Walton---Mrs. Inez Boice Harby, 81, a retired businesswoman, died about 1:30 p. m. yesterday in her home, 3 William St.

The funeral will be at 2 p. m. Wednesday in Christ Episcopal Church, Walton with the Rev. Victor O. Boyle officiating. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery. Friends may call until Tuesday noon at Clark funeral Home.

Mrs. Harby was born Feb. 22, 1869, at Loomis, daughter of Josiah and Margaret (Vannakin) Boice, and was married May 24, 1899, to Platt R. Harby in New York City. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and resided most of her life in Walton. For many years she operated a millinery and women's apparel shop here, retiring in 1931.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. L. E. Sahlin, Rockville Center, L. I., Mrs. E. F. Flock, Chevy Chase, Md., Mrs. W. P. Courtney, Walton; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Josiah Boice, died in Scranton, Pa., on Tuesday, and was brought to Walton for burial, with Masonic honors. The funeral will be from the Baptist church, at one o'clock this afternoon.

It is with sorrow we announce the death of one of our best townsmen, Mr. Jacob Boice, who passed away on Sabbath morning. Mr. B came to this place from the town of Olive, Ulster county, many years ago, and settled upon the farm, where his son Abram now lives. He was a careful and upright man. He was a hard-worker and successful man, securing a snug property by honest, patient toil. His children, under his example, all grew up to be worthy and respected citizens. A few years ago, he retired from the farm, and moved to Loomis, where he has since resided. He was a worthy and faithful member of the Baptist church. But tongue and pen fail in eulogizing so good a man, always friendly, sociable and honest. We rest assured that our loss will be Heaven's gain to him.

Rest sweetly, father, your days on earth are done,

Life's race by you was well and truly run.

For years you lived in this world of strife,

And now you go to enjoy a better life.
