Eccleston, Ruth C. (Turner) 1908-2001 New Berlin NY Obituary

NEW BERLIN — Ruth Corrine Eccleston, 92, of New Berlin, and formerly of Morris, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at the Valley View Manor Nursing Home in Norwich.
She was born in Morris on Dec. 15, 1908, the daughter of Jonathan and Mary (Gardner) Turner.
She married Kenneth Eccleston on April 29, 1927, in Atlantic City, N.J. He died Feb. 10, 1999.
She had been employed by the H.W. Naylor Co. in Morris for more than 22 years.
She and her husband had resided in New Berlin, since 1985, and before that they were lifelong Morris residents.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Morris.
She was well-known for her knitting of mittens and then giving them to all the children in the area and also her pride in feeding and helping people in need.
Ruth is survived by her son, Carl Eccleston and his wife, Bernice, of New Berlin; two granddaughters, Carlette Brownell and her husband, Larry, of Amsterdam and Shari Eccleston of Wisconsin; three stepgranddaughters, Ann Downey and her husband, Dennis, of Norwich, Alice Church of Sherburne and Patricia James of New Berlin; one stepgrandson, David James of Morris; three nephews, Paul Knickerbocker and his wife, Helen, of Pittsfield, Milton Knickerbocker and his wife, Dorthia, of Morris and Charles Turner and his wife, Florence, of South Edmeston; along with 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Three sisters, Clara Carpenter, Emma Stebbins and Louise Knickerbocker; and two brothers, Fred and Harry Turner; predeceased her.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, with the Rev. Joseph Fiske officiating. Burial will be in the Hillington Cemetery in Morris. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Those who wish may donate to the United Methodist Church of Morris or the Morris or New Berlin Emergency Squads in her memory.
Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Fay, Mabel (Gifford) 1908-1999 Lifelong resident of Morris NY

NORWICH — Mabel M. Fay, 90, of Norwich and a former lifelong resident of Morris, died Thursday, March 25, 1999 at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich.
She was born Dec. 28, 1908 in Morris, the daughter of Willard and Anna (Keller) Gifford.
She was first married to Charles Miller in 1930. He died in 1973. She was then married to Charles Fay in 1976. He died in 1987.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Morris and the Church Women's Guild. She was also a longtime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Morris Fire Department.
Mabel is survived by a son, Ronald Miller, and his wife, Darlene, of Morris; a daughter, Joan Valentine, and her husband, Bill, of Homer; her grandchildren including Randall Miller, Joseph Miller, Deanna Kent, Ronald Miller, Matthew Miller, Olivia Miller, Karin Casalarc and David and Jonathan Valentine; great-grandchildren including Amber Miller, Jeffrey Miller, Tiffany and Brittany Miller, Ashley and Joshua Kent, Thomas Wallace and Dustin Sherman; stepchildren, Michael and Tim Fay; and a stepgrandchild, Meike Fay.
Private funeral services will be Sunday, March 28, 1999, at the United Methodist Church in Morris with the Rev. Kip Stratton officiating.
Burial will be in the Hillington Cemetery in Morris.
Calling hours will be Saturday, March 27, 1999, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.
In lieu of flowers, it was Mabel's request that donations be made to the United Methodist Church of Morris or the Morris Fire Department Emergency Squad in her memory.
Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Olds, Erford W. 1920-2001 Lifelong Resident of Morris NY

Erford W. Olds

OXFORD — Erford W. Olds, 81, formerly of Morris, died May 14, 2001, at the New York State Veterans' Home in Oxford.
He was born on Feb. 15, 1920, in Norwich, the son of William and Edna (Hackett) Olds.
Erford was a lifelong resident of Morris and owned and operated a large dairy farm until his retirement.
He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, stationed in Biloxi, Miss.
He was a member of the American Legion in Gilberts-ville.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Olds of Otego; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Esther E. Butler of Bainbridge and Betty and Richard Walton of Gilbertsville; his brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Sylvia Olds of Tampa, Fla.; and his aunt, Dorothy Gassler of Utica. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Gertrude Washbon, on Feb. 5, 1970, and his nephew, Richard Freeman Walton, who was killed in the Vietnam War on Feb. 5, 1970.
A memorial service with full military honors will be held in Hillington Cemetery, Morris, at a later date.
